Speak and write Japanese fluently. Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide the primary foundation for future education. Create a welcoming and positive classroom climate and culture. Use the Japanese language to teach reading, writing listening, speaking, social studies, mathematics, science, and life/learning skills to students in a classroom using the state/district curriculum. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction. Understand literacy development of elementary students and utilize research-based instructional strategies/methods appropriate for various grade levels. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve an effective learning atmosphere in the classroom. Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare report cards and other necessary documentation to report student growth and achievement. Integrate the school improvement goals into the classroom. Maintain student classroom records using current district technology and expectations. Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss curriculum, assessments, and student progress. Identify student needs and collaborate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students address social, emotional and academic issues. Create an effective and welcoming environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, instructional materials, bulletin boards, and websites. Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities. Utilize age and content appropriate aids. Maintain required inventory records. Provide supervision and oversight to students throughout assigned work day. Administer standardized and local assessments in accordance with district assessment program. Participate in curriculum development programs as required. Participate in school improvement initiatives at the district and school levels, as well as serving on committees and collaborative learning teams.
