Working with us, you will:
Be a collaborative team member, using your multimodal traffic engineering expertise to shape and guide the development of complex projects from concept to final design that range from complete streets and urban trails to urban design, mixed-use development, and campus planning projects.
Work with a multidisciplinary team of planning and design professionals from SmithGroup offices across the country.
Independently scope and conduct traffic engineering studies across a range of scales using the latest software platforms and analytical tools.
Ability to determine and facilitate the collection of traffic and transportation data for multiple modes of travel (vehicle, bike, pedestrian), including managing subconsultants or other traffic data providers.
Engage with Marketing, Business Development and other disciplines to effectively market our services in our growing mobility practice, including involvement in the preparation of qualification and proposal packages, interview materials and technical proposals as well as participate in thought leadership opportunities.
An ideal candidate has:
A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with demonstratable expertise with traffic engineering principles, practices, and tools.
Minimum 5 years of experience working as a traffic engineer.
Preferred office location Ann Arbor or Detroit.
Professional Registration (PE) required. Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification a plus.
Expertise in multi-modal corridor design principles and methods - especially related to active transportation infrastructure.
Proficiency with traffic engineering software platforms, which may include VISSIM, Synchro, SimTraffic, HCS, PTV Vistro and/or other modeling platforms. SmithGroup will work with you determine the most appropriate software platforms to utilize to support our project needs.
Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D
Experience utilizing AASHTO, MUTCD, FHWA, and other technical guidance to inform the design, layout, and arrangement of transportation infrastructure. Sustainable design experience a plus.
Experience with traffic signal design, phasing and timing to support multi-modal design.
Desire to think innovatively and creatively - to use traffic engineering expertise to help guide and inform design solutions within a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with MS Work, Excel, and Powerpoint.
