Non-Exempt/Bargaining Unit Posting Local/Seniority Unit - 2500/3307 Date Posted Internal - 9/6/23, Deadline Date - 9/13/23 Department - 142580 Customer Accounting Salary Grade - UK Job Code - J094B Number of openings - 1 Shift - shift bidding process based on seniority Site/Location: Detroit, MI Status - Regular Full Time Performs a variety of analytical and transactional tasks in support of the accounting function within the Finance division. * Perform and maintain record of journal and account entries by compiling and analyzing accounting activities. * Prepare and maintain bank and general ledger account reconciliations and investigate variances for correction. * Respond to internal and external customer inquiries related to financial transactions. * Assist with supervision and workload distribution to Accounting Clerks and provide quality review of work completed by peers. * Process accounts payable invoices, primarily purchase order invoices. * Process bank/check related functions, such as deposits, voids, cancels, reissues, bank lookup, file processing, balancing and controlling. * Administer premium payment application and investigation/resolution. * Perform balancing, controlling, and processing computer and manual check writings and 1099 production. * Service and respond to customer phone, written, and/or walk-in inquiries. * Assist in updating and maintaining corporate policies and procedures. * Provides attention to detail and precise reporting through verbal and written communication skills. Qualifications * High school graduate or GED equivalent is required. * Associates in Accounting or a minimum of 60 credit hours towards obtaining a Bachelor's in Business Administration with a major in Accounting with at least two basic accounting classes preferred. * Two (2) or more years' experience related to the duties mentioned above. * Problem analysis and resolution requiring independent judgement with supervision. * Attention to detail and precise reporting abilities as an error have a significant negative impact on the department and corporate credibility and image. * Well-developed verbal and written communication skills are necessary to achieve inter-departmental and inter-divisional goals. * Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to communicate with co-workers, management, and other BCBSM departments, as well as banking institutions. * Must possess problem identification/resolution skills, and exercise independent judgement with minimal supervision. * Working knowledge of generally accepted principles and practices of Accounting. * Exposure to computerized systems and accounting applications: Microsoft Excel and Access preferred. * An understanding of Corporate Accounting Policy. * Other related skills and/or abilities may be required to perform this job.
