Overview:
HKS is seeking an experience Design Researcher to join our team for a 1 year Post Doctoral Fellowship.
This individual will contribute to developing project and design solutions to advance respective projects while working independently with guidance. Eager to learn and innovate in review of research project proposals, assistance with the development of experiments, report and paper writing. Anticipates job expectations, while performing design and technical tasks requiring application of standard techniques and knowledge.
Responsibilities:
Project:
Participates in designing and conducting research studies related to architectural design
Provides research support to design projects
Participates in communicating research findings in both peer-reviewed forums andmainstreammedia
Works on architectural projects as a subject matter advisor and design researcher
Provides knowledge gained through studies to the firm with experiential exhibitions, workshops, and presentations
Develops methods for exploring and testing design concepts at the intersection of computation, construction, and cognition
Works with research and design teams to collect and analyze data
Assists design teams with the development of prototypes and translation of design intent with innovative fabrication techniques
Manages administrative duties for events, experiments, and testing of ideas in the Lab
Assists with the development of digital tools for design analysis providing services and training to design teams
Spends an assigned amount of time working with or advising on one focused research project in the Incubator, the HKS practice-led research program
Communicates with other disciplines, vendors and contractors to incorporate information into design, project requirements and documents as needed
Participates in team meetings to discuss project issues, design and technical issues and coordination with other disciplines
Demonstrates systems thinking
May assist in explorations with design teams, ranging from low fidelity rapid prototypes to immersive environments

Revenue or Opportunity Generation:
Fosters awareness of the importance of growing and maintaining client relationships
May assist in identifying, maintaining and cultivating partnerships with academic and industry partners
Participates with civic, community and industry professional organizations with commitment and professional integrity to represent HKS
Qualifications:
Must be a current doctoral candidate or PhD in a design, technology, or social science field
Typically 3+ years of working experience in healthcare design research
Environmental and Social Governance related accreditation preferred
Proficiency preferred in one or more of the following skills: physical and digital prototyping, research methodology, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, academic and industry writing, common digital workflows, and design tools such as Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper and Adobe Suite
Proficiency in MS Office Suite
Knowledge of sensor technology, parametric design and construction, scripting languages such as C# and Python, digital simulation and analysis, and digital fabrication workflows preferred
Knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines
Knowledge of the entire project lifecycle, through post-occupancy
Knowledge of materials, construction techniques and building codes preferred
Strong graphic, visualization and representation skills to communicate design ideas
Ability to communicate in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writing
Ability to problem solve and apply innovative solutions
Ability to work and collaborate in a team environment
