Electrified Propulsion Development (ePD) division (previously Powertrain) is one of the largest engineering divisions at HATCI. ePD is specialized in electrified propulsion components/systems testing and development as well as ICE/(P)HEV/EV vehicle performance development (energy efficiency, range, charging, etc.) for Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis products sold in North America.
The Position
HATCI is currently seeking a Senior Engineering Manager - Electrified Propulsion System Development (ePSD) for our Superior Township, MI facility (near Ann Arbor). The ePSD is an Engineering Department within ePD, which was recently established to undertake projects related to electrified propulsion system component test and development. This is a key leadership role responsible for driving excellence in engineering project execution, fostering collaboration, and achieving strategic goals. This position reports to the Director of ePD.
Core Responsibilities
Establish and build department's resources, capabilities, and a project portfolio for production vehicle and new technology development.
Understand and follow division's business model, strategic direction, purpose, and mission and continually communicate them with direct reports.
Set up department's goals and objectives aligned with division's direction, and drive execution, engagement, and results to accomplish them.
Develop and manage department's plan, strategy, and budget allocation & usage.
Assign tasks and evaluate performance of direct reports.
Work with the Director to participate in division's resource planning, goal setting, and technology road map creation.
Facilitate inter-team collaboration and knowledge sharing through transparent communication.
Produce and deliver executive presentations on key project milestones and achievements.
Remain current with new technology and competitive products as a means to drive innovation.
Provide technical guidance and support for electrified propulsion system related concerns for both pre-production and post-production issues.
Manage engineering groups with activities consisting of:
Development or identification of new technologies, strategies, and methods for improving the energy efficiency, range, and performance of current and future Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis battery electric vehicles.
Test, evaluation, and development of various electrified propulsion system components such as electric motors, power electronics, and charging system performance & interoperability.
Test, evaluation, and development of EV range and efficiency
Investigation of industry trend through benchmarking competitors' systems & vehicles, application of the information to internal development directions and performance target settings
Feasibility analysis of new electrified system technologies through simulation, dyno tests, and on-road evaluations
Introduction of selected electrified technologies to current or next gen productions through active communications with R&D Headquarter production programs.
Research activities with external partners including national labs, universities, and tech suppliers.
Industry trend investigation, publication of technical papers and reports internally/externally.
Travel both domestically and internationally (up to 15%)

Basic Qualifications
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related fields
10+ years of automotive engineering experience
3+ years of people & project management experience (as an engineering manager)
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and leadership & people management skills
Demonstrated ability to work collegially with others with the highest standards of integrity.
Working knowledge and experience in vehicle electrification technologies
General knowledge in vehicle or vehicle component test procedures
Must be able to work with many different departments within HATCI and with its affiliates (e.g., Korea R&D Center, Hyundai Motor North America, Kia US, etc.) with a demonstrated ability to create relationships and facilitate work across company functions.
Good written communication and interpersonal skills
Valid Driver's License with satisfactory driving record

Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other related fields
