SUMMARY:
Support the priority needs of our manufacturing plants for reliable and capable inspection technology. Work with Operations, Quality, Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering of all business groups and other business functions to understand current and future demands for inspection and process control technology. Develop strategies to address emerging needs. Promote standardization and harmonization of different machine vision applications across the organization- where technically appropriate. Support projects across all plants and products. Assure the right purchasing of equipment to meet the business requirements along the whole project in close cooperation with our sites. Assist transformation from manual inspection to fully automated vision inspection with all included target aspects and challenges. Regional focus will be Americas but position is a global role in our manufacturing engineering organization.
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE:
The position requires knowledge of imaging and other inspection technologies, (machine vision and nondestructive evaluation (NDE) as well as image analysis) and a deep understanding of how these can be deployed in pursuit of business goals. The incumbent should be familiar with manufacturing processes, such as casting, molding, and machining, have a good awareness of quality control and inspection procedures, and understand lean manufacturing practices.Project management skills are essential, along with the ability to formulate and communicate project plans supported by key stakeholders. Knowledge of metrology, machine design, and industrial automation control technology such as robotics and PLC's is beneficial, along with an understanding of statistics and business finance.
EDUCATION:
B.S. in Industrial, Manufacturing or Electrical Engineering or Computer Science required. M.S. in Engineering Management, Physics, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Five years in project engineering and manufacturing, preferably in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Quality-related role.
Industrial automation (equipment design, procurement/build and integration)
Experience managing a complex portfolio of projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support Operations in implementing new or existing, adaptable machine vision solutions, provide support and guidance to manufacturing locations in identifying new and validating existing solutions.
Promote knowledge sharing across plants and involved business groups, especially other manufacturing engineering groups.
Promote standardization and harmonization of machine vision applications- where technically appropriate.
Develop strategies for addressing future inspection and process control needs.
Manage Vision Technology projects.
Work with Operations, Quality and Product Engineering to understand current problems, goals, and customer requirements (may require sometravel to remote locations.)
Conceive solutions in a timely manner using appropriate experimental techniques, constructing "proof-of-concept" demonstrations to show how these could be implemented.
Work with other groups, both inside Tenneco and external, to "productionize' chosen solutions.
Seek out innovative ways in which advanced sensor and control technology may be used to reduce scrap, improve quality and cut costs in manufacturing operations.
Find automation potential with the plants and proof project business cases for project kick-offs.
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ensure appropriate equipment is available to the team, the working environment is safe, and that EHS policies are followed.
Perform administrative duties for projects as required.
