Job Purpose
The Student Auxiliary Facilities Director reports to the AVP of Student Auxiliary Services & Chief Housing Officer with dotted line reporting to the Senior Director of Facilities Operations and Maintenance in Facilities Planning & Management. In this role, you will manage and provide leadership while overseeing daily operations of all Student Auxiliary Services Operations, including Student Housing, Student Dining Facilities and Operations, and the Student Auxiliary Services areas of the University. This role requires partnering with contracted facility service providers and University facilities maintenance personnel to meet the facility-related needs of university students, faculty, and staff. This role develops departmental strategic plans, project plans and execution, and management of operational and capital budgets. Timely reporting and communicating key processes and key activity indicators to all stakeholders is also a responsibility for this role.
Essential Functions
Student Housing
Works with the AVP of Student Auxiliary Services & Chief Housing Officer, this position is directly responsible for collaborating with our P3 partners management staff and operations team in the stewardship of housing facilities to meet day-to-day operational needs and long-range plans. Monitors work orders and measuring P3 partner performance against KPIs and working with partners to resolve facilities issues as needed.
Works with the concessionaire's management team, identify short and long-term strategic and operational plans for residential facilities renewal.
Partners with WSU One Card Office, Computer and Information Technologies, and the University locksmith to manage facilities locking hardware, network systems, and electronic card access to residential facilities.
Dining Facilities
Partners with various suppliers and vendors for services. Oversees relationships daily to ensure overall facility quality standards.
Develops and executes projects to meet retail brand standards as well as operational needs, including coordinating equipment inventory replacement cycles.
Student Auxiliaries Services
Responsible for coordinating special facilities requests through our FP&M Operations team supporting events, such as event set-up support, response to facilities and operation-related issues during events and supporting improvement projects across campus for events management.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree
Experience: Expert (established subject matter expert, 7+ years experience)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The ability to maintain a comprehensive quality control program that audits to ensure building readiness in all areas of responsibilities.
Understands vendor agreements to ensure the highest facility quality. Assess the facilities-related issues to determine responsibility for the follow-up actions and outcomes, holds parties accountable for the timing and results.
Understands the State of Michigan Building Codes and works closely with the University's Risk Management team and State Fire Marshall to ensure continued compliance with regulations and general conditions affecting safety and the environment.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE- Working knowledge of boiler systems, chillers, HVAC systems, cooling towers, electrical distribution systems, emergency generators, plumbing systems, elevators, and construction techniques. Familiarity with parking deck construction, asphalt paving, and telecommunications systems. Knowledge of cleaning methods and materials and use and maintenance of the full range of housekeeping supplies and equipment.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS- Effective interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to handle pressure situations, including dealing with sensitive and confidential human relations situations.
SUPERVISORY SKILLS- Ability to delegate work, set clear direction and manage workflow. Strong mentoring and coaching skills. Ability to train staff and develop subordinate's skills. Ability to foster teamwork among staff members.
ANALYTICAL SKILLS- Ability to compare, contrast and quality check work with a keen attention to detail. Strong analytical skills including critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT SKILLS- Ability to prepare timelines and project plans with little or no supervision/oversight. Ability to meet deadlines.
Preferred qualifications:
Additional Education Information: or equivalent combination of education and work experience, preferred. Candidates will have some hands-on trades and/or engineering experiences, i.e. journeyman status, professional licenses, etc. Master's degree preferred. Additional Experience Information: Minimum 10 years of hands-on and progressive experience in facilities management roles in a similar environment (facilities and operations management in higher education, healthcare, Class A office, or industrial settings.) At least 10 years in a management role.
