A day in the life of a Geotechnical Sr Staff Engineer at NTH
- Coordinate field inspections and investigations under supervision of a project engineer, including on-site direction of geotechnical drilling activities.
- Gather data from test borings, test pits, and monitoring wells.
- Oversee installation of various geotechnical instrumentation and read them based on project requirements.
- Conduct laboratory and field testing of soils.
- Perform a variety of engineering analyses and calculations, with and without the use of engineering software.
- Prepare geotechnical report and present findings and recommendations.
- Monitor construction operations, including earthwork, dewatering, and excavation support installations and prepare engineering field reports.
- Assist in the preparation of technical proposals, cost estimates, plans, and technical specifications.
What you need to apply
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (emphasis on geotechnical engineering), or related degree, from a 4-year accredited college or university. Masters preferred.
- EIT preferred.
- 3 years of demonstrated field and analyses experience in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering
- Ability to interact with existing clients to understand their needs.
- May be required to perform job duties in the field and office, during non-standard work hours, as necessary.
- Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- May be required to enter and work within confined spaces, once appropriately trained.
- Strong time management, communication, and organizational skills.
- A desire to be part of a results-focused team focused on solving a variety of problems facing our clients.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel to and conduct field work at job sites/offices in Michigan.
