JOB SUMMARY/ACCOUNTIBILITY:
Support the Assistant Managers for Health and Nutrition to implement high-quality overall health and nutrition services. Monitor and secure missing or expired health and nutrition screenings in infant, toddler, and children’s health files. Assist their designated Assistant Managers to generate and follow-up on referrals for Nutrition, Health and Dental screening and services. The Health and Nutrition Associate runs reports, enters data and conducts hearing and vision screening for children from birth to five.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- First level of response to all staff for inquiries about the Health and Nutrition content area
- Provide clarification and technical support to all staff in implementing all Health and Nutrition policies and procedures
- Ensure that all children are up to date on the appropriate schedule of preventative and primary oral healthcare and follow up care as needed
- Provide information, referral, and coordinating efforts to link staff and families to appropriate nutrition, health and dental community resources
- Discuss with family advocate and other staff any relevant health and nutrition related assessment data
- Assist teaching staff with integration of oral, health and nutrition activities on lesson plans
- Assist with health and nutrition focused activities at the center level.
- Monitor CACFP required at classroom level
- Ensure that EHS and HS Nutrition materials are tracked and accounted for (Along with Nutrition Specialist)
- Assist in monitoring compliance of all Health and Safety requirements at the center
- Assist in the planning and implementation of parent trainings/workshops
- Obtain and maintain required Food Handler’s training
- Model the values of good health and nutrition
- Maintain adequate safeguards for the privacy and confidentiality of information
- Complete required documentation of relevant activities and submit records and reports in a timely and accurate manner
- Stay abreast of current issues and trends by participation in grantee-sponsored training, center pre-service and in-service trainings, and other continuing education, career and professional development opportunities; read and review regulations and other resources
- Perform all other duties as assigned
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of an Associate’s degree from an accredited college in a Health and or Nutrition focus preferred
- At least one year of related experience, with emphasis on training and knowledge of community health and nutrition resources; one year experience providing direct services to children and families in a health setting
- Knowledgeable of USDA guidelines and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)
- Ability to work effectively with minimal daily supervision and guidance
- Strong working knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards and Michigan Childcare Licensing Regulations
- Effective in an environment of cultural diversity; comfortable in a collaborative, team-based work setting
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Reliable transportation is required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
WORKING AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Works in a normal office environment with usual pressures of managing personnel and dealing with time constraints. Because of multiple sites within the department and the need to meet with others within the community, it is common to drive to several locations, sometimes in inclement weather. May be required to lift up to 25 pounds
