The Endoscopy Technician functions under the direct supervision of the team leader and the Registered Nurse with professional direction from the appropriate physician. Works in partnership with the health care team, patient/family. Assists with delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care to accomplish positive patient outcomes and organizational goals. Provision of care focuses on assisting physician and registered nurse while performing endoscopic procedure, cleaning and maintaining equipment, stocking equipment and supplies.
Responsibilities:
Explains procedures and expected sensations to the patient. Provides instruction to ensure patient cooperation and to minimize discomfort. Provides physical and emotional support to the patient during procedures.
Assists physicians with endoscopic procedures. Sets up appropriate equipment for procedures and ensures necessary supplies are available. Collects, prepares and delivers specimens.
Transports patients and supplies as needed.
Responsible for the cleaning, storing, and supply levels of equipment and accessories used in various endoscopy procedures. Maintains a clean, safe patient care and staff working area.
Documents according to hospital and unit specific guidelines to accurately reflect care provided immediately after performing procedure or task.
Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred:
- Prior experience in direct patient care and BCLS.
