The City of Lansing's Police Department is seeking a full-time Crime Research Analyst to join their professional Law Enforcement team. The Crime Research Analyst is a civilian employee of the Police Department who conducts research and analysis of statistical patterns and trends of crime data.

- Must be able to flex schedule based on operational needs outside standard business hours.
- The Work Schedule for this position is Monday - Thursday (2:00pm - 10:00pm) and Friday (8:00am - 4:00pm).
IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Geography, Crime Analysis, Intelligence Analysis, or a related field; AND
- At least one (1) year of experience performing analysis of criminal activities and/or performing statistical analysis of crime data.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS INLCUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Collects, compiles and analyzes information pertaining to police operations including careful assessment of statistical patterns of crimes and calls for service.
- Responsible for the accurate collection and analysis of crime data and geographic locations within the city to determine resource allocation for things like community policing areas, redistricting, and proactive policing areas.
- Maintains and develops the department’s GIS system that utilizes ESRI’s ArcGis software and OMEGAS CrimeView Extension.
- Assists in writing grants by collecting data pertaining for the applications criteria.
- Creates and distributes reports using appropriate methods for dissemination, such as daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly reports.
- Fuses and disseminates information from LPD (personnel, social media, website, tips) and outside agencies for criminal justice and other approved operational needs, as well as monitors social media for any threats to law enforcement or the public, utilized by the detective bureau to retrieve video from various business and residential surveillance systems to help further criminal investigations.
- Creates and maintains training records for crime analysis internships and oversees intern projects and assigns tasks as needed. Participates in hiring, interview process, and training of interns.
