Metro Health (now the University of Michigan Health-West) is looking for - Manager - Central Processing * Days - 40hrs/wk
The Central Processing Manager oversees daily operations, quality assurance, department and capital budgets, strategic planning, staffing, and all policies and procedures. The Manager maintains a 24-hour responsibility for managing all activities of sterilization and decontamination of surgical instruments as well as ensuring proper department efficiency for all Central Processing Department (CPD) areas at University of Michigan Health West facilities.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree required or obtained within 2 years of hire into the manager position. Degree in Healthcare or Business field preferred.
- Certification in Central Sterile Technician is required.
- Five years’ work experience in Surgery, Sterile and Central processing, or other closely related fields.
- Three years of supervisory / management experience required with experience overseeing Sterile / Central Processing strongly preferred.
- Effective leadership skills; team-oriented management style; positive communication; experience in process improvement activities.
- Knowledgeable in the use of software for supply ordering.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates correct departmental processes and procedures to staff. Serves as a technical expert regarding instrument reprocessing, decontamination, and sterilization for any facility within Surgical Services and UMH-West.
- Ensures optimal sterile processing performance; through quality control and quality assurance of all Sterile Processing activities and equipment. Monitors and reports equipment operational status. Recommends equipment changes, upgrades, and additions to meet manufacturer's instructions for use(IFU) for all items processed.
- Develops departmental standards of operation assuring policies are up to date, in compliance with regulatory and professional agencies, including but not limited to CMS, HFAP, AAMI, & AORN.
- Provides guidance and direction to perioperative leadership team regarding internal and external CPD related regulatory standards.
- Develops and ensures there is a comprehensive departmental orientation for new staff. Routinely coordinates training and competency validation for all. Ensures all work is performed within prescribed technical and safety standards. Provides or coordinates instructions and in-service on new products, procedures, and equipment to identify and prevent resource loss, and maintains patient and staff safety. Ensures staff attend technical and mandatory training/education.
- Supports staff and collaborates with outside vendors on developing, monitoring, and enforcing process for loaner trays and equipment entering and leaving UMH-Westth Central Processing facilities.
- Monitors and adheres to labor and expense budgets. Maintains reports in appropriate cycles for department performance and staff attendance.
- In collaboration with Perioperative Leadership, accountable for developing and monitoring the department budget to ensure fiscal accountability.
- Maintains adequate inventory of equipment to meet facilities
- Functions as a system administrator for instrument tracking system.
- Provides on going and effective communication with physicians, hospital/clinic department management, staff, and vendor representatives. Represents department/Surgical Services by attending appropriate department and facility meetings.
- Responsible for unit position control, time schedule, and allocating paid time off to meet staffing needs for the department.
- Interviews and hires potential employees, assuring the technical and professional development of the staff.
- Performs routine rounds on assigned unit to establish visibility, teamwork, and monitoring the level of practice.
- Performs other duties as assigned. These may include but are not limited to: Maintaining a current knowledge base of department processes, protocols, and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning and continuing education opportunities, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.
