The Nurse Tech role can be very fast paced role requiring strong communication and teamwork skills. This is a very hands on role and duties will include taking vitals, changing dressings, checking blood sugars, bed baths, ambulating, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients.
The Nurse Tech role will require 2 days of training in our simulation center and 1 day of EPIC training with our Nurse Educators. These are pre-scheduled and required classes from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. These in person classes typically take place on Tues, Wed and Thursday the first week of employment. Because these classes are prescheduled, you must attend each day. We are unable to reschedule the required dates if you cannot attend. Attendance is compensated. The remainder of your Nurse Tech training will take place on your unit, during the hours of the position you accepted, and is also compensated. Nurse Techs are often floated to other departments of higher need based with similar training. If they are outside of a unit with their similar training (such as med surg NT going to ICU), you would typically just be acting as a safety attendant. But all typical units NTs float to would have similar expectations and training.
