Summary:
The Defect Engineer II identifies battery cell defects caused by contamination and reduce them through equipment and procedural improvements. The individual in this role will drive a focus on quality and continuous improvement in our li-ion battery cell manufacturing clean room.
Responsibilities:
Implement improvements that reduce foreign particles using a structured problem-solving approach, such as lean Six Sigma, including:
Using complex equipment such as scanning electron microscopes (SEM)
Identifying the root cause (source of contamination) in the production process
Designing, prototyping (including 3D printing) and piloting improvements
Verifying that improvements are effective
Standardizing improvements and communicating them with others both written and verbally
Train production team members on best practices and process changes
Collaborate with other teams (e.g. Production, Quality, etc.) to resolve internal and external quality issues
Engage in weekly meeting with the production team to review and plan
Participate in large-scale planning or installation projects as needed
Analyze product failure data and laboratory test results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions
Design and direct the testing or control of processing procedures
Monitor material performance, and evaluate any quality issues
Conduct or supervise tests on raw materials or finished products to ensure their quality
Evaluate technical specifications and economic factors relating to process or product design objectives
Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards:
Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain
Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required in Engineering, or equivalent, relevant experience
Lean Six Sigma (LSS) certification
Experience:
1 to 3 years of experience in engineering problem solving, with an emphasis on hands-on continuous improvement implementation
Materials and mechanical engineering
Manufacturing experience
Microsoft Office, especially Excel
CAD Design
