Utility Weld Prep Team Member
Summary
The Utility Weld Prep Team Member is a multi-task position, responsible for performing and providing support for the weld prep and weld fabrication team. This position will operate in a “floater capacity” where the individual will be expected to fill in for various operations and responsibilities within the weld prep and weld production area as needed including material handling, saw operation and plate fabrication.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for quality and quantity of sub-assemblies
- Responsible for quality of product before final shipment
- Follow blue-prints and complete saw activities
- Inspect parts for non-conformances or defects
- Manually layout and cut parts according to print specifications
- Set tooling as needed to cut parts
- Safe operation of overhead cranes and forklifts (loading/unloading)
- Responsible for safe operation and maintenance of equipment as required
- Maintain an efficient, clean and organized work area
- Operates machines for cutting and punching plates
- Places workpiece on table manually or by using overhead cranes
- Aligns workpiece to scale and end gauge on machine and clamps it to the table
- Continuous improvement in support of department and company goals
- Supports, participates and encourages team building
- Provide feedback, both positive and negative, to the team, other related departments and the supervisor
- Promotes a positive work environment
- Follow and adhere to all Porter Corp procedures and policies

- Perform other duties as assigned
Education and/or Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of basic machine operation and material handling methods to ensure qualify product is delivered to all customers
- Knowledge of saw, CNC, punch, welding and beveling
- Some experience using steel cut saw machines preferred
Computer Skills
- Basic computer skills
- Demonstrated proficiency using EPICOR ERP or similar systems

- Able to read blueprints and measurement tools

- Possess very good problem-solving skills
- Must be self-motivated and results oriented
- Must be open-minded to new ideas and concepts
- Ability to operate saw machines
- Ability to operate over head cranes
- Ability to perform occasional heavy lifting (up to 100 lbs)
- Able to work in an indoor productions/shop environment with exposure to variable temperatures and environmental factors (heat, cold, noise, PPE, etc.)
