The Health Practitioner classification is located within the STD/HIV Program of the Health Department.

EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP: Just cause subject to a probationary period.
CURRENT HOURS AND STARTING TIME: Full-time position (37.5 hours per week). The starting time for this position is currently 8:30 a.m.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Health Practitioner provides direct nursing care in a variety of settings, coordinates the activities of assigned programs, participates in program planning and implementation, and professional development programs. Performs related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides direct nursing care to age-appropriate adults and adolescents in a clinic setting, utilizing appropriate authorized nursing process and practices.
Provides direct client care including health history, physical examination, the performance of diagnostic procedures and tests, health assessment, client management and referrals in accordance with Department policies and procedures.
Provides consultation to Program Nurses and other staff concerning the health care of Health Department clients.
Participates in program planning, implementation and evaluation including the development of various program procedures.
Consults with other agencies concerning health needs; participates in workshops / conferences focusing on reproductive health and related health care issues.
Provides reproductive health and risk reduction education to clients.
Addresses any concerns in the absence of the Program Manager and Personal Health Services Coordinator.
Orientates staff as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or a health related field from an accredited college or university
- Successful completion of a Certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program and maintain certification
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master's Degree in Nursing or a health related field from an accredited college or university
- Previous experience in public health setting
Required Licenses or Certifications
- Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license and an operable insured automobile for authorized travel
- Licensed by the Michigan Board of Nursing to practice as a Registered Nurse; if obtaining a Michigan License, must show proof of current Registered Nurse license from any state in the United States

- Principles, practices, current developments, reproductive health care and techniques related to public health
- Personal computer capabilities, operations and applications related to Desktop Operating Systems, MS-Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), E-mail products and Web development products

- Demonstrated proficiency with Google Suite (Gmail, drive, sheets, etc.)

- Make public presentations to various community partners, organizations, boards, and the public on highly complex information

- Speak and understand a language other than English is preferred
