Stryker is seeking to hire a Senior Mechanical Engineer, R&D to support Stryker's Instruments Division. This role is focused on sustaining engineering supporting Stryker's OEM/CM products. This is a hybrid role, working 2-3 days per week in the office and you will be located Portage, MI.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
As the Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will work with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management to ensure project success. With minimal supervision you will develop, modify, evaluate and verify mechanical components for medical devices. This is a unique opportunity to learn all areas of Stryker and to work with a variety of products. The project timeline is fast paced and this person will work to solve problems and create efficiencies within the OEM/CM product lines.
Technical Responsibilities:
Under minimal supervision, design, develop, modify, and verify mechanical components for medical devices.
Develop prototyping and bench testing.
Perform fundamental and advanced problem solving, root cause analysis, identify potential solutions, and evaluate them against requirements.
Independently create or refine engineering documentation, such as the Design History file.
Follow R&D procedure like design controls and risk management, per the Quality Management System.
Engineering Competencies:
Fundamental knowledge and understanding of mechanical engineering practices and tools, design principles within a regulated environment.
Technical ability to create engineering drawings and models, applying GD&T and CAE tools.
Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes to product design.
Ability to Communicate basic plans and technical information to team members.
Strong knowledge of analysis tools and statistical methods.
Med Device Compliance:
Follow fundamental industry standards, design requirements and test strategies which apply to regulatory requirements.
Independently create or refine engineering documentation, such as the Design History file.
Follow R&D procedure like design controls and risk management, per the Quality Management System.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Required
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, related discipline & 2+ years of work experience
Preferred:
Prior internship experience (experience with automated assembly manufacturing preferred).
Demonstrated ability to lead a cross-functional team, manage priorities, work under high pressure, and multi-task on multiple projects.
Fundamental knowledge and understanding of mechanical engineering practices and design principles.
Basic knowledge of design and concept generation utilizing CAD (Pro-E) and CAE tools.
Basic knowledge of materials and manufacturing methods.
Ability to read and interpret complex drawings.
Basic knowledge of analysis tools and statistical methods.
Good problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
A good analytic and mathematics understanding.
Excels at problem solving (Ability to work through each problem, use case, etc., and find the root cause, then provide potential solutions; methodical).
