HIRING AUTHORITY: Deputy County Executive/Director of Planning and Economic Development
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP: Just cause subject to probationary period
UNION REPRESENTATION: Non-union
CURRENT HOURS AND STARTING TIME: Full-time (37.5 hours per week) position. The current starting time for this position is 8:00 a.m. Possible evenings and weekends as required by this position.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Supports the economic development strategy of the department by providing business intelligence. Engages companies to provide business growth solutions. Works on special projects and data requests for the department, the county and business concerns. Assists in the growth and expansion their business. Provides the opportunity to explore all facets of the economic development career, gain the necessary skills and knowledge. Acts as a team leader for special projects as requested.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides resources and technical assistance to businesses contemplating investment and growth in the County by linking them to appropriate local, regional, state and federal resource programs.
Acts as a technical representative to both local and non-resident businesses in order to coordinate available County assistance and to perform advocate functions for these businesses.
Assists in the preparation of marketing plans and strategy.
Assists in the preparation of business/talent development plans and strategies.
Acts as a coordinating agent for Macomb County in order to attract new business to the County.
Develops and maintains communication with area businesses and other interested groups in order to gather and disseminate pertinent information regarding business needs and economic development services.
Acts as team leader for special projects as requested.
Provides training and guidance to professional level staff in the Department.
Represents the County at meetings and public hearings as assigned.
Travels nationally and internationally for various work assignments.
Operates an automobile while performing assigned job duties.
Performs related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Urban Planning, Economics, Business Management/Development, Public Administration, Finance or Political Science
- One (1) to three (3) years of related work experience
Required Licenses or Certifications
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Urban Planning, Economics, Business Management/Development, Public Administration, Finance or Political Science
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in facilitating/packaging state and municipal economic development incentives
- Experience in any of the following areas: workforce development, economic development, business development and/or corporate sales
