Summary of Position
The primary function of the production supervisor is to supervise the activities of the workers to ensure that manufacturing goals are completed to appropriate quality standards at lowest possible cost, meeting customer specifications and delivery requirements in accordance with established company policies and procedures; assist the Plant Manager in meeting the daily/monthly production plan.
Principal Responsibilities Direct activities of all workers assigned to the area, changing work assignments and specific duties during the shift as required to maintain efficient operation.
Enter and correct production data including reporting machine times and scrap/rework activity.
Take necessary disciplinary action to administer established company policies and correct inappropriate employee conduct up to and including immediate indefinite suspension pending further review by Human Resource Manager.
Work with division management to determine appropriate schedule for jobs based on priority or the dispatch list to be run during the shift. Make necessary decisions to maintain efficient workflow and productivity. Coordinate production activities with other departments; prioritize and make adjustments as needed to avoid manufacturing delays.
Generate a daily production report that accurately reflects all activity on that shift and the current status of all open orders.
Communicate with upper management, supervisors and lead workers all problems/concerns regarding workers, equipment scheduled, etc.
Perform first-piece inspections for production employees. Conduct in-process inspections of critical jobs to verify that work is continuing according to customer specifications.
Assist employees with problem solving, setups, fixturing, etc. Obtain appropriate supplies and tools required by employees.
Develop and administer methods to reduce scrap; apply "5 why" procedure to determine and write appropriate corrective actions.
Maintain company standards for Quality and Productivity. Review daily reports and communicate data regarding MMF, Efficiencies and Corrective Actions with employees as needed.
Maintain safe working conditions and cleanliness of work areas at all times.
Coordinate, monitor and document the training of new employees; maintain training records, evaluate on-going training needs of workers and report recommendations to Division Manager. Provide technical support as needed.
Prepare information for employee performance evaluations; participate in formal reviews with employees; in conjunction with division managers and supervisors.
Develop and maintain positive employee relations and ensure open lines of communication with employees.
Work with division supervisors and managers on vacation schedules and other employee requests for time away from work. Communicate and receive approval on scheduling issues with Division Manager, assist in developing appropriate work schedule for the coming week and determining overtime assignments.
Attend and actively participate in all assigned meetings and committees
Conduct interviews and provide Division Manager appropriate feedback.
Participate in interviews and provide Division supervision appropriate feedback.
Other duties as assigned.
Education
Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Production Management or continuing education including technical seminars in related disciplines preferred, Must be willing to participate in ongoing educational classes and seminars, as determined by management, to maintain appropriate level of technical and professional skills and knowledge required to successfully perform the duties of this position.
Skills/experience Must be able to operate and adjust CNC Tool Grinding equipment as required. Must be able to train and evaluate employees in proper operation of equipment.
Several years of prior supervisory or management experience.
Must be able to work independently, making both routine and emergency decisions without direct supervision or input from upper management.
Computer literate, able to use PC for basic recordkeeping and generating summary activity reports. Should have demonstrated ability to apply ISO 9001 quality and corrective action standards, SPC procedures, time & attendance and data collection procedures.
Appropriate communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to read, interpret and follow blueprints, shop routings and specific engineering notes related to unique customer specifications.
Must have thorough understanding of company policies & procedures as well as all applicable federal, state and local laws that relate to employee safety and welfare. Must have ability to react and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
Must be able to perform mathematical calculations including basic process time, various time estimates, production hours and percent's; able to apply basic trigonometry functions to calculate angels and lengths.
