Engineering Coordinator- Inspection Team
PURPOSE AND DESCRIPTION
Position summary:
Perform O.E.M. part number and vehicle research to identify vehicle application coverage requirements. Provide detailed information for all vehicles identified with new part numbers or platforms. Support Engineering teams with vehicles and technical expertise to assist with new product releases.
List essential job functions:
Procure vehicles to support Engineering and Tech line with product development, fit and function issues, and provide digital pictures to assist in documentation of these issues.
Provide Vehicle Inspection data to support Engineering, Marketing & Sales, and Tech line with new vehicle coverage, verification of existing product line coverage, and installation documentation.
Responsible for purchasing, measuring and documentation of O.E. and aftermarket samples as requested by engineering.
Participate in monthly departmental product design/incident meetings.
Support cost reduction programs.
Other job duties or responsibilities:
Support platform groups by participating in monthly incident report meetings.
Assist catalog design group by providing new model information and catalog corrections.
Maintain a centralized filing system.
Maintain a working relationship with internal and external customers.
Schedule vehicles and secure parts for customer satisfaction obligations to be performed on site.
Most important job aspect:
Provide 100% of new vehicles identified to be required to support the Aftermarket Engineering Group.
KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATION
Minimum educational requirements:
Two Year Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education and related work experience or related Training Seminars I Certificates.
Automotive passenger car certification in suspensions, steering, alignments, brakes and braking systems.
Automotive heavy truck certification in suspensions, steering and alignments.
Automotive passenger car and heavy truck certification in engine performance/ exhaust systems.
Specific knowledge required to perform the job satisfactorily:
Should have a working knowledge of the current and past automotive base.
Should have a good working. knowledge and familiar with Word Processing, Database, and Spread Sheet Software Ability to use digital and dial measurement equipment such as calipers, micrometers, steel tape measure, height gauge, telescoping and ball type hole gauges, thread pitch gauges and air pressure gauges. Must be knowledgeable with the English and Metric systems and understand how to convert from one to the other.
Should have a working knowledge of digital and standard photographic equipment
Must be able to absorb and organize large amounts of information.
Self-motivated, results oriented individual.
Must be able to communicate in written and oral format in a very efficient yet clear manner.
Must be capable of working as a team to obtain departmental goals.
Must accurately and politely represent our company.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum experience required:
Two year of previous automotive related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience are required.
Previous P.C. skills are necessary.
Complex problem solving:
Assisting internal customers with fit/ function issues by verifying application, instruction procedures, bill of material errors, and design/ mechanical issues.
Mental pressure and visual requirements:
Must be able to work within limited time constraints.
Must be able to work on several projects throughout the day and be able to move from task to task.
Must be willing to modify work schedule to satisfy customers.
Must be capable of continuous data entry using a keyboard.
Must be a self-starter
List degree and frequency of physical requirements:
Will be required to measure components of vehicles not easily accessible.
Will be required to work under vehicles, and outdoors if necessary to obtain data.
Will be required to lift and carry vehicle components weighing up to 70 pounds.
List contacts with people, inside and outside the company:
Will be required to maintain a list of contacts of sales and parts personnel and local dealerships to obtain parts, vehicles, and technical data. Must also develop a rapport with internal sales representatives, engineering personnel, tech line agents, and customer service representatives.
Will be required to maintain a database of private individuals I employees who allow their vehicles to be used for testing and evaluation purposes.
How often does this job require you to plan, analyze, identify problems, or develop work for the future?
On a daily basis, there may be several vehicles required for the day's activities, requiring permission from owners, chase vehicles, and drivers to successfully complete requirements. Some arrangements are made several days to up to several weeks in advance.
The vehicle inspection is based on analysis of mechanical design, and identification of possible fit and function issues with replacement product.
Monthly goals are set at the beginning of the year to keep the large amount of annual work progressing at an acceptable rate. Adjustments are made as required.
