About the Role:
This position is for a mechanical engineer to design, develop and release crew accommodations and driver control mechanisms for steering, throttle and braking on military ground vehicles. The primary areas of focus will include the design and integration of driver controls that interface with drive by wire systems. Depending on workload demands, this person may also work in other areas such as fuel systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and automatic fire suppression systems, driver controls, shock/vibration mounting, stowage, and other mechanical subsystems.

Responsibilities to Anticipate for this role:
Design and integrate driver steering, brake and throttle controls into military vehicles. This will include working with suppliers to develop the subsystems and design components to meet vehicle performance requirements including human factors, safety, environmental and mine blast requirements.
Apply mechanics of materials, material selection, welding, and fabrication principles for mechanical components and complex welded brackets, mounting provisions.
Decompose vehicle performance requirements in order to perform system analysis and select appropriate components such as sensors, cables, handles, springs, pedals, and mechanisms and conduct detailed design of fluid system custom components.
Generate key characteristics, component specifications and perform component selection for supplier purchased parts.
Support various projects by doing analysis & design, drawing mark-ups, tolerance stacks and generating source data for engineering changes.
Write material requests and shop work requests, track delivery and stock of parts, participate in integration reviews, fit checks, and write reports.
Provide support to prototype and production vehicle build and follow-up, technical corrective action formulation, troubleshooting and redesign activities.
Present design concepts and program status to functional and program management.
Write test plans and perform testing and evaluation of fluid system components in the GDLS hydraulics lab.
Direct and oversee CAD model and drawing development.
Conduct failure analysis and corrective action along with responsible for technical writing and presentations.
Qualifications Sought:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
5-7 years plus in a related role is desired.
Solid modeling experience with NX and Creo desired.
Experience with Teamcenter and Vis Mockup a plus.
Ability to travel up to 10% to other facilities and military installations if needed.
Additional Information / Desired Experience
This position may require eligibility to obtain a US security clearance. (Non-US Citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance)
Experience with vehicle driver controls for steering, brake and throttle.
Experience integrating with vehicle drive by wire and control systems.
Demonstrated experience developing mechanisms and components.
Previous experience working on ground combat Vehicles desired.
This position may require the candidate to be able to climb on/off, work in, and work around military vehicles.
Ability to work occasional weekends, evenings and overtime is required.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required.
Must be able to work independently on component and system designs but also be able to work well in a collaborative environment for vehicle integration.
