We are hiring for multiple positions within the Ortho and Total Joint Department and are excited to be offering a new Weekend Only Program for Registered Nurses
Eligibility: RNs in inpatient nursing settings with 24/7 scheduling are included.
Two options: 0.6 or 0.9 FTE
0.6 FTE would work two 12-hour shifts on the weekend.
0.9 FTE would work two 12-hour shifts on the weekend and one additional shift during the week.
Compensation: RNs will receive an additional $10 per hour plus their base pay.
The $10 per hour will only be applied to the weekend shifts the RN works
If the RN is a full-time (3)12s a week RN, the stipend will apply to the two shifts on the weekend and not on the third weekday shift
This $10 per hour will be combined with shift differentials as well as other special codes.
Scheduling: RNs will be required to work 48 out of 52 weekends per calendar year.
Weekends are defined as Saturday and Sunday for day shift and Friday and Saturday night for night shift RNs can request up to 48 hours of PTO on their weekend shifts as well as 48 hours of exchanging a weekend shift for a weekday shift, for a total of 96 hours 'off' of the weekend requirement.
This would be given in accordance with unit guidelines with allotted PTO as well as peak times, etc. RNs may request 1 holiday off per calendar year that falls on the weekend.
The RN would only work the holiday if it fell on the weekend, they will not be moved off a weekend to work on a holiday.
3E/G is a unique team structure at Blodgett Hospital composed of two separate units but one team. 3E is a 24 bed Med/Surg unit with some Medical Orthopedic patients while 3G is a 22 bed Orthopedic unit primarily serving Total Joint Replacement Patients. Our team works on both units, providing a variety of patient population experience including Total Joint Replacement, Hip Fracture, Osteomyelitis, and other medical patients. Nurses on the 3EG team are part of an exceptional Joint Replacement program that is one of the largest and best in the nation, serving on average 2,800 patients per year. The program has received and maintained Joint Replacement Disease Specific Certification from the Joint Commission as a testament to our teams' dedication to provide high-quality care. Our RN's care for 3-5 patients on day shift and 3-6 patients on night shift.
Delivers nursing care responsibly and accountably as described professionally by the American Nurses Association (ANA) and legally by the State of Michigan. Demonstrates competency through the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. This includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Upholds the standards of professional performance as described by the ANA. This includes ethical practice, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice and research, quality of practice, professional practice evaluation, resource utilization and environmental health. Strives to achieve optimal outcomes.
Essential Functions
Provides evidence-based nursing care consistent with the interprofessional plan of care and in accordance with health system policies, procedures, and ANA/regulatory standards. Communicates and collaborates with other members of the health care team in order to ensure continuity and coordination of care. Acts as a patient/family advocate. Performs point of care testing as required.
Demonstrates a high standard of moral, ethical, and culturally sensitive behavior. Formulates decisions and actions based on ethical principles, using the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide practice. Advocates for privacy, confidentiality and security of patient, staff and organizational data.
Assesses the overall needs of the patient/family and analyzes the assessment data to identify potential diagnoses or issues.
Identifies expected outcomes/goals and develops and implements/coordinates an individualized interprofessional plan of care that recommends strategies to achieve the outcomes in accordance with the ANA Standards of Practice. Evaluates patient and family educational needs and employs appropriate teaching strategies while continually evaluating progress toward achievement of goals/outcomes.
Initiates patient discharge planning at time of patient contact and facilitates a smooth transition to the next point of service/home.
Ensures that required documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
Assumes an autonomous leadership role and delegates appropriately to unlicensed assistive personnel to facilitate safe, quality patient care in a cost-effective manner.
Engages in activities related to the professional role and seeks to continually advance knowledge and competence related to nursing practice while completing self and peer evaluation of nursing practice. Participates in ongoing improvement activities that contribute to quality patient care.
Required Qualifications
Associate's Degree Nursing
Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing must be obtained within 5 years for those who start in this RN role on or after January 1, 2017
Successful completion of a competency-based orientation program

CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - Within 90 Days of hire
