Position Summary:
The responsibilities include acting in accordance with all Company standards, policies, and procedures. Primary responsibilities include oversight of the General Ledger, Inventory Control, and Accounts Payable Teams and protecting the assets of the Casino.
Responsible for preparing timely and accurate internal financial statements and month-end close. Maintains integrity of accounting records. Demonstrates initiative in understanding process flows and controls. This position requires close coordination with the Revenue Audit Manager, Operations, and Internal and External auditors.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for practicing, supporting, and promoting Gun Lake Casino's "Unsurpassed Service" Standards at all times.
Manage the Accounting General Ledger Team to ensure timely and accurate accounting, reconciling, and reporting for cash, prepaid, fixed assets, payables, accruals, payroll, and related income statement accounts.
Ensure the integrity of all balance sheet reconciliations.
Cross-train in all essential duties of the team. Performing staff accountant duties are a normal part of this position's responsibilities.
Manage the Accounts Payable Team in their performance of ensuring expenditures are properly authorized, timely paid, and accurately filed.
Ensure the integrity of all payments.
Manage the Accounting Inventory Control Team in their performance of processing inventory transfers, month-end inventories, and loss prevention.
Ensure the integrity of inventory systems.
Maintain GAAP accrual general ledgers. Ensures integrity of all transactions and records.
Review and post monthly journal entries and as needed, prepare and process monthly journal entries, produce schedules and analyze results. Communicate concerns to the Director of Finance.
Review and approve monthly general ledger account reconciliations. And as needed, reconcile general ledger accounts, which includes preparing the appropriate spreadsheet and verifying balances to computerized system reports. Communicate concerns to the Director of Finance.
Prepares month-end internal financial statements, including preliminary review of financials for missing accruals and accurate coding for assigned departments, issue to departments for comments, and follow-up adjustments.
Assists in preparing external financial statements
Schedule, conduct performance appraisals, interviews, and corrective counseling for staff.
Coordinate preparation for external quarterly reviews and year-end audits. Coordinate quarterly and annual tax filings.
Coordinate long-term confidential record retention, storage, retrieval, and destruction.
Assist in compliance responsibilities of the department to ensure the Casino remains in compliance with GAAP, SICs, and best business practices. This may include updating and /or preparing policy and procedure documents.
Perform other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as may be required from time to time - quite often on short notice.
Essential Qualifications:
Five (5) years of related Accounting/Financial experience; gaming experience preferred.
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business related field required.
Three (3) plus years of supervisory experience.
Proficiency in Excel, Outlook, Word, and general ledger accounting and reporting software. Strong technical and computer literate skills preferred.
Strong organizational skills. Detail-oriented, innovative, flexible, task-oriented, and can work independently with minimal direction.
Good decision-making skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with Guests, Team Members, and Management in both written and verbal form. Effective interdepartmental communication and coordination.
Strong technical accounting skills.
Flexible working hours and schedule required.
Must be able to obtain a gaming license for the jurisdiction in which the property is located.
Physical Requirements:
Requires normal, corrective vision range, the ability to see color, and the ability to distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols.
Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs.
Manual Dexterity to operate job related equipment.
Work Conditions:
Work is typically in an office environment, however, additional work areas may be unusually hot, cold, noisy, and may contain secondhand smoke. Tasks may be performed from a sitting or non-sitting position in a confined area. Team Members may be required to stand, walk, lift, reach, push, pull and grasp. These tasks include the maintenance and care of assigned area. Work may entail constant contact with fellow Team Members, Management, Vendors, and Guests: high volume and fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
