Job Description:
The Mechanical Engineering Specialist will be responsible to support the design and development of components and sub-systems. The Specialist may work as a lead for one of the engine subsystems on the AVDS Engine which is an air cooled, V-12, turbocharged, diesel engine currently rated up to 1200hp. Future projects are underway to signifcanlty increase the engine power rating. Other responsibilities may include design and development of components/sub-systems for hybrid powerpacks and turret drive systems for military ground vehicles. Projects range in scope from advanced research and development of future products to procurement support, testing and failure analysis.
Essential Functions:
Develop system, sub-system, and component requirements to meet customer requirements.
Develop concepts to meet requirements.
Perform mechanical, hydraulic, and thermal analysis to ensure new designs meet requirements.
Develop & release detailed drawings. Interface with cross functional team and suppliers as needed.
Develop test plans to validate new designs.
Conduct / oversee test activities.
Conduct / lead failure investigations.
Write and present internal & external engineering reports & presentations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university required with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
Demonstrated ability to perform mechanical stress and structural engineering calculations.
Demonstrated ability to perform thermal fluids and heat transfer calculations.
Ability to manage and organize multiple project tasks to meet established deadlines.
Must be capable of obtaining a DOD security clearance.
Good written and verbal communications.
Must be willing to travel (domestic and foreign) up to 10%.
Must be able to move freely within the manufacturing and lab environment with reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Additional Skills:
Engine and engine sub-system design and development experience, especially with power cylinder, fuel, lubrication, and cooling systems.
Bachelor's degree and minimum 4 years of prior related experience.
Master's degree in mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience.
Working knowledge of GD&T.
Creo / Windchill experience.
Experience designing and developing components for a military or aerospace contractor.
