Job Summary
Leads the response for any calls that involve behavioral health patients, based on extensive de-escalation training. Responsible for rounding in all hospital departments to assess risk and building working relationship. Patrols hospital buildings and grounds to detect or deter criminal activity and unsafe conditions. Responds to emergency situations, calls for service and other requests for assistance. Provides supports for safe and efficient parking and transportation services. Expansion of a skill set, in- regards to de-escalation, redirection, and communication A deeper knowledge / understanding regarding communication with individuals with mental illnesses, communication with juveniles, and cultural differences. Trained and proficient in the different mental illnesses and understanding how the mind works. Cultural, socio-economic differences. An understanding and working within the boundaries of a healthcare environment to reach mutually beneficial goals.
Essential Functions
Maintains highly visible foot patrols to detect or deter highly volatile situations, fire, accidents, violations of hospital policies and criminal acts.
Documents information on incident reports and other required documents in a thorough, factual and timely manner.
Assists employees, visitors, and patients with directions, lost and found items, vehicle assistance, escorts, and other requests for assistance. Provides access control for secured areas.
Communicates, collaborates with, and provides appropriate information to patients, visitors, and members of the health care team.
Manages verbal / physical conflicts using verbal de-escalation, physical presence, restraint techniques or other appropriate legal force options. Responds to and investigates suspicious, criminal or emergency situations.
Responsible for training new officers systemwide, maintaining training records for new officers that entail all items the officer was training on, as well as their skill level on each items. Collaborates with the Security Training Team and leadership to determine if new officer is proficient.
Responsible for being a part of the response team to calls that involve behavioral health patients.
Continuously engages in ongoing training of industry best practices as far as security, critical incident response, de-escalation training, and training new employees.
Qualifications
Required High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred Associate's Degree Public Administration or Criminal Justice
5 years of relevant experience related experience Required
Law Enforcement Academy or Military (active duty) experience in an environment of comparable size and complexity. Preferred
At least 21 years of age with valid Michigan driver license. Required
LIC-Driver's License - STATE_MI State of Michigan Upon Hire required
CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 180 Days required Or
CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 180 Days required
