UNION REPRESENTATION: UAW Local 412, Unit 75 Supervisors
CURRENT HOURS AND STARTING TIME: Full-time (40 hours per week) position. The current starting time for this position will vary based on the assigned shift (days, afternoons or midnights). Evenings, weekends and holidays are required.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under direction, supervises the operations of the Juvenile Justice Center for an assigned shift; ensures proper care, control and security for Juvenile Justice Center residents, facility, property and programs; ensures the proper enforcement of admission and release procedures for the Juvenile Justice Center; participates in and implements designated programs for Juvenile Justice Center residents.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversees various programs and services to ensure the consistent applications of program services, including: detention housing, intake, resident transport, facilities and operations, staff orientation and training, food service and behavioral modification programming.
Assists in the development of behavior management programs, policies, procedures, and protocols.
Supervises staff, ensuring consistent application of all program services and policies and procedures.
Manages staff schedules, evaluates staff performance, prepares and presents employee evaluations and performance plans.
Conducts staff investigations related to facility related incidents.
Remediates employee performance issues and provides recommendations to resolve the problems.
Determines staff development needs and conducts on-going staff training.
Investigates and responds to resident grievances and citizen complaints, and if necessary, escalates to the Deputy Director or Director.
Participates in applicant interviews and oversees new employee orientation and training.
Ensures accuracy of all facility documentation.
Oversees the physical facility, security systems, and emergency systems. Coordinates with administration to ensure that the facility remains in compliance and all necessary drills and other requirements are current at all times.
Coordinates with Macomb County Facilities and Operations, contractors, and vendors regarding the facility’s needs and objectives.
Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with residents, parents, union officials, Courts, and other outside agencies and individuals.
Maintains resident files in accordance with programs, agency, and licensing auditing requirements.
Oversees and monitors the use of restraint and seclusion ensuring proper usage and reporting.
Works a flexible schedule including afternoon, and/or midnight shifts as well as weekends and holidays.
Administers medication in the absence of assigned staff.
Assumes the duties of a Youth Specialist in the absence of required staff.
Operates an automobile to perform assigned job functions.
Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, or related field from an accredited college or university
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a youth detention or related facility
- A minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master's degree, preferably in in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, or related field from an accredited college or university
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a youth detention or related facility
- A minimum of four (4) years of supervisory experience in a youth detention or related facility
Required Licenses or Certifications
- Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and operable, insured automobile for authorized travel
