BHK’s Early Childhood Apprenticeship Program is a collaborative effort to engage individuals into an early childhood career. Paid on-the-job learning, coupled with educational courses and one-on-one coaching. Other benefits include wage increases and college courses at no cost to the apprentice.
Upon completion of the program participants will have gained knowledge and skills in the following content areas:
· Establishing & maintaining a safe, caring, inclusive, and healthy learning environment
· Planning & implementing intentional, developmentally , culturally, and linguistically appropriate learning experiences
· Observe, document, and assess children’s learning and development
· Develop reciprocal, culturally responsive relationship with families and communities
· Advance and advocate for an equitable, diverse, and effective earl childhood education profession
· Engage in reflective practice and continuous learning
Placement opportunities include infant/toddler care, preschool, and out-of-school time K-6 programming.
TO APPLY:
· 17 years old
· High School Diploma or GED
· Complete Application for Apprenticeship (enclosed)
· 3 professional references
· Criminal History Release request
APPRENTICE SELECTION:
1. Once application is received, an ICHAT and PSOR clearance is obtained.
2. Initial phone interview.
a. Explain apprenticeship- review work process schedule and related instruction outline
b. Discuss site preferences
c. Describe program expectations
3. If phone interview favorable and apprentice agreeable, an interview is completed with supervisor.
4. If selected, apprentice signs screening statement for federal comprehensive background clearance.
5. Apprentice receives letter of appointment outlining salary, site, provisionary status, working hours, etc.
WAGE SCALE:
· A high school grad with less than one year of experience would start at $11/hour.
· BHK Wage Lattice would be in place that would determine starting wage based on education and experience.
· A higher wage would be given to the apprentice once the program is completed.
