Job Description Summary
The Recruiter is part of the Human Resources department at Michigan Technological University and is an individual contributor responsible for managing all aspects of talent acquisition and facilitating the recruitment process for staff positions at the university. This position serves as a subject matter expert for sourcing, pipeline development, hiring process enhancements, and expert management of the search process overall. This position is responsible for leading a strategic approach to full life cycle recruiting and providing recruitment expertise to internal customers across campus. Reporting directly to the Chief Human Resources Officer, the Recruiter role will work closely with leadership to ensure a high-quality candidate and hiring manager experience within our hiring process.
The Recruiter will be responsible for filling positions annually for a variety of roles ranging from service, skilled trades, and administrative support staff roles to professionals in research, student and academic affairs, athletics, IT, business services, public safety, leadership, and more.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
Conduct intake sessions with hiring leaders on search positions to fully understand and appreciate the characteristics of their ideal candidate regarding knowledge, skills, abilities, and cultural fit.
Demonstrate expertise on effective search strategies and be the SME for conducting searches following university guidelines and procedures.
Serve as a role model for the Human Resources team and for talent acquisition.
Provide Recruiting consulting services to campus partners including competitive market analysis and internal pay equity, as required.
Support and implement diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
Contextualize and assist hiring departments to understand how Talent utilizes digital outreach and social media to bolster candidate identification and sourcing.
Review and assess resumes of passive candidates and applicants, submitting only pre-vetted candidates to departments and search committees.
Assist with search committee guidance and administration, as needed.
Prepare power point presentations and present to various groups across campus.
Provide project management support and oversight for high level recruiting, including partnering with external search firms, when used.
Execute talent acquisition short and long-term strategies.
Manage Search Firms contracts and services, when required, along with the relationship with vendors, and provide oversight of the searches being conducted on campus.
Drive a high level of client satisfaction.
Utilize the university's Applicant Tracking System to manage job postings and candidate process.
Participate in special projects teams and work on various recruitment or HR initiatives in order to enhance the experience of our customers, colleagues, and candidates.
Champion employer branding efforts and take a lead in Branding and Social Media work, as needed.
Attend outside career events and outreach, when necessary
Attend, and occasionally lead, recruiting and leadership meetings
Complete recruiting projects and administrative functions assigned specifically by the Chief Human Resources Officer.
Engage in ongoing continuous improvement and change management initiatives related to the hiring process.
Other tasks as assigned.
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)
- Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired
Required Experience (minimum requirements)
At least 2 to 5 years of experience in full-cycle recruiting.
3 years of recent recruiting experience in higher education is preferred.
Experience with building trusted advisor relationships to inform and influence business decisions among a diverse group of clients and colleagues.
Experience as a skilled communicator and influencer at all levels of an organization.
