Overall responsibility to deliver sheetmetal quality which impacts customer requirements of wind noise, water leaks, closing efforts and fit & finish.
Feasibility of product designs for Body Construction Engineering.
Use DVA (Dimensional Variation Analysis) to determine if customer requirements can be meet with a given design and assembly process.
Ensure product designs meet manufacturing design standards by working with manufacturing engineers, tooling suppliers and product engineers through a digital pre-assembly (DPA) process and PD Structure development process
Support the part coordination process.
Work with dimensional control engineers to ensure that locator and measurement point standards are followed through the complete manufacturing process including component suppliers and assembly tools.
Support the PCF (Part Coordination Fixture) build with VLS leadership
Support in the delivery of a dimensionally stable sheet metal body.
Assist manufacturing engineers of body sub-systems to deliver dimensional capability.
Work with the assembly plant in developing the dimensional control plan.
Verify CMM programs are correct.
Work with component suppliers to ensure parts can build a dimensionally stable body.
Position at times may require extensive travel.
Bachelor's degree in engineering
Strong verbal & written communication and presentation skills
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others as part of a team
Self-motivated team leader capable of providing a clear vision for success and deliver results
Working knowledge of statistics (charts, data collecting, repeatability studies)
Ability to multitask and operate in challenging situations within timing constraint
Highly organized for official document record retention
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent knowledge in the field of dimensional control, body construction or stamping.
Hands on experience in vehicle assembly plant as dimensional control engineer preferred
Experience with virtual manufacturing tools (TCe & Vismockup) preferred
Excellent knowledge of GD&T principles as applied to sheet metal required
Experience in assembly plant or manufacturing engineering launches
Familiarity with GPDS preferred
