Description:
Under the general direction of the Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care to all ages
of patients. The LPN assists the Registered Nurse (RN) in performing and coordinating direct patient care for a specific group of
patients. The LPN functions as a collaborative member of the healthcare team utilizing our nursing philosophy,
policies/procedures, and standards in all care. The LPN provides direction to ancillary personnel and demonstrates commitment
to nursing practice, along with accountability and growth to promote best patient outcomes and patient, family, and staff
experiences. The LPN promotes a safe practice and care environment.
Full access to medications is given to the incumbent of this position as the job responsibilities include handling, preparing, and
administering medications within the LPN scope of practice and job description.

What you will do:
Under the direction of the RN, assists with the initial and ongoing assessment of assigned patients through observation
and data collection, as delegated by the R.N.
Performs activities which may be delegated by the RN and/or Physician, including but not limited to:
o Venipuncture for specimens including blood cultures.
o Initiates and discontinues intravenous, i.e., peripheral short catheters.
o Inserts and discontinues indwelling and intermittent clean urinary catheterization.
o Obtains laboratory specimens and performs basic laboratory procedures, i.e., point -of-care blood glucose,
stool sampling, sputum collection, etc.
o Performs basic bedside care and selected procedures under the supervision of the RN: 12 -lead ECG;
dressing changes; routine respiratory care (i.e. coughing and deep breathing, incentive spirometry, pulse
oximetry, oxygen setup and administration, hand held nebulizer); vital signs; recognition, reporting, and
intervention for life-threatening conditions.
o Administers physician-directed treatments such as eye irrigation, etc.
o Other unit-specific activities such as activities of daily living appropriate to the patient's condition
