Job Description Summary
The College seeks a Operations Manager who is responsible for the daily operations of the Ford Center in Alberta in coordination with the Director and other staff.
The Ford Center is in the historic village of Alberta (originally built by Henry Ford) and operated by the College of Forest Resources and Environmental Science as a premier field station supporting natural resource education and research since 1954. As an outdoor and environmental education center with full-service conference facilities and lodging we also host year-round, technical training, business workshops, meetings, retreats, and reunions for family, friends, and colleagues.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
1. Support and attract year-round internal and external groups to utilize the Center, including marketing, and offering programming in support of guest interests.
2. Work with Kitchen and Maintenance Coordinators to manage the employee schedule for appropriate staffing with direct oversight of housekeeping staff. Conduct hiring of additional temporary staff including advertising, and interviewing.
3. Serve as first point of contact for on-site general inquiries, and issues such as reservations, vendor billing, and emergencies.
4. Document station activities (research, education, outreach) for social media and annual reports in coordination with Director and main campus staff.
5. Oversee rental arrangement of houses and dormitories (long term and short term) consistent with the mission of the Ford Center and open to diverse user groups.
6. Keep track of the students in residence, room assignments, key distribution, and return, etc.
7. Supervision of RA's for IFP (Integrated Field Practicum, a semester-long undergraduate course taught at the Ford Center and Forest) to ensure supportive needs for students are met.
8. General attention to ensuring we are following best practices in operations of the facilities and processes for all residents at the center. Work to ensure a safe environment for students, guests and employees at the Ford Center, including annual fire drills, and working alarms and extinguishers.
9. Support Nara Maple Center program development (seasonal). Nara Maple Center is our new maple syrup production facility located on the Nara Forest near Lake Linden, MI and is part of the Ford Center.
10. Work with office support staff in the College to ensure all billing, payroll, purchase orders, and revenues and annual reporting are handled in timely manner.
11. Other duties that further the operational, education and research goals of the Ford Center as assigned by the Director.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)
* 4-year degree (bachelors) in business, outdoor recreation management, or 6 years of equivalent experience
Required Experience (minimum requirements)
* 2 years of experience in outdoor recreation, hospitality, education or related sectors
Desirable Education and/or Experience
1. Experience working in a student/guest focused environment.
2. Experience drafting brochures and other marketing materials
3. Familiarity with maple syrup production
4. Familiarity with Michigan Tech processes
