SUMMARY
The Field Service Technician is part of the Creative Solutions Technical Support team and is primarily responsible for the execution of field modifications. Related technical service duties will include diagnosis and repair and startup of HVAC equipment. This position requires out of state travel approximately 50% of work schedule annually.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other functions may be assigned.
- Coordinates with team leader/project manager to understand and execute all on-site installations and repairs by examining modifications, unit layout, site layout, anticipating difficulties. gathering materials and performing on-site work.
- Represents the company by ensuring customer satisfaction by proper execution of modifications, diagnosing, and repairing equipment at customers location.
- Writes follow up reports for work performed.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills are needed to excel in this position.
- The ability to maintain a professional, cooperative temperament with internal and external customers in high stress situations.
- Maintain a high level of knowledge and understanding of customer expectations and product standards.
- Document customer and Trane personnel feedback to enable communication of issues to other teams.
- Read and analyze electrical schematics, refrigerant piping diagrams, custom graphical programming, installation and operations manuals, and 3D models of parts and assemblies.
- Assists with general office initiatives by helping to improve the business while controlling expenses and increasing income.
- Attends, contributes to meetings with team members, salesmen, customers, and management as needed.
- Promotes company safety policies to team members.
- Submits accurate, timely reports as required.
- Maintains vehicles by keeping records of service manuals, maintenance, service, and repair of mechanical systems.
- Maintains tools and equipment by inspecting for signs of wear.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area.
- Flexibility to occasionally work outside normal work hours/weekends when needed.
- Flexibility to occasionally work in other company departments when needed.
- Flexibility to travel out of state with overnight stays up to 50% of work schedule, yearly.
QUALIFICATIONS

The ability to use logic and analytical skills to solve technical problems is required, along with mechanical aptitude and the ability to work with instrumentation and electrical /electronic systems. An understanding and/or an ability to learn safe refrigerant handling techniques.
Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations including, but not limited to:
- DUI in the previous 5 years
- Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless / Careless Driving or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A High School Diploma or equivalent.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret plans, specifications, contract documents, control drawings, service bulletins, technical procedure manuals, equipment specifications, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from team members, management, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as percentages, area, circumference, volume, discounts, interest, and proportions. Ability to use basic algebra and trigonometry. Ability to apply these concepts and disciplines to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

This position requires working in both a typical conditioned office environment and a typical semi-conditioned shop environment. The noise level in the office environment is usually moderate. The noise level in the shop environment is usually loud. While performing the duties of this job required in the shop, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, and fumes or airborne particles. Occasional work outdoors, in mechanical/equipment rooms, in extreme weather conditions, and in areas with vibration are possible. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and high, precarious places.
