About this Opportunity
As an Engineering Manager, you'll be responsible for leading and supervising a multi-functional team in the successful design, development, production launch, and/or maintenance of Herman Miller products. Your efforts will align with the product strategy and focus on the support of current and emerging product applications. You will manage headcount, deliverables, schedules, and costs for multiple ongoing projects and programs, ensuring that resources are appropriately allocated and that goals, objectives, timelines, and budgets are met in accordance with program and organizational roadmaps.

Participate in planning projects or tasks.
Analyze supply chain cost, value stream capabilities, and economic principles, and make appropriate recommendations.
Assign, monitor, and review the progress and accuracy of work, directing efforts and providing technical guidance on more complex issues.
Build and develop a strong team and distribute the workload equitably.
Capture and effectively communicate in-depth technical knowledge.
Conceptualize, drive, and execute solutions to the most complex problems.
Identify and implement changes in procedures.
Identify individual team member's career development needs and the resources and activities needed to address them.
Identify opportunities and own improvements to products and processes.
Maintain, apply, and teach engineering expertise with superior results.
Make decisions in a timely manner, sometimes with incomplete information and under pressure and tight deadlines.
Manage major project budgets and hold accountability for expenses.
Lead a cross-functional team as needed.
Mentor new talent by teaching engineering knowledge and skills.
Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
Present your work output in a clear and concise manner.
Regularly work on major projects and solve very complex problems.
Take responsibility for setting engineering quality standards.
Sound Like You?
You might be just who we're looking for if you have . . .
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited program. A Master's degree is preferred.
Ten or more years of professional engineering experience with zero to three years of management experience.
A proven track record of attaining success in engineering assignments.
Leadership qualities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including professional presentation skills.
Strong business acumen, including basic knowledge in accounting, finance, quality, marketing, and operations.
Fluency in new product development processes with a proven ability to lead teams in the conceptualization and implementation of new products.
A basic understanding of engineering and quality tools such as ProEngineer, PDM, ERP, Reliability, GD&T, QFD/House of Quality, DFMEA, PFMEA, DFA, Control Plans, and Statistical Process Control, and how they are utilized to improve business results.
A thorough knowledge of project management concepts, including scheduling, MS Project, scope management and control, resource management, and budgeting, and a proven ability to apply these concepts successfully to manage projects to achieve business results.
A demonstrated ability to effectively use the office automation, communication, software, and tools currently used in the Herman Miller office environment.
The ability to perform all essential job functions with or without accommodations.
