Description
As a Senior Technician in the Exposures - Pipes Team Lab you will be performing laboratory procedures to achieve results that meet accreditation and policy requirements, evaluate and assist in the development of laboratory processes and maintenance/selection of instrumentation, as well perform laboratory procedures, exception investigations, and maintenance needs.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Without direction, perform basic laboratory tasks (i.e. making batch water, distribute and track samples, laboratory housekeeping/maintenance, and prepare or pre-treat samples).
Perform all applicable corporate and laboratory quality control procedures and policies.
Perform exposure/prep methods for varied product types.
Train new staff as needed to assist the Laboratory Manager.
Prepare all records (electronic data, folders and forms) in a timely, thorough and neat manner.
Use the laboratory information systems and sample tracking procedures, as applicable.
Using MSDS's work with various chemicals, solvents, acids, and bases.
Perform subcontracting outsourcing as needed.
Participate in rotation of work schedules.
Manage assigned SOPs and provide input to other SOP's for work area.
Participate in methods development as assigned.
Cross-train in other Preparation group sections in order to alleviate the workload when high sample volumes are experienced.
Work with staff from the various Program Office areas as needed to alleviate problems in testing and information as needed.
Work with other Labs within the Ann Arbor Labs as needed.
Maintain a clean work area.
Suggest, test, document, and implement process improvements.
Perform other duties as requested.
Adhere to the safety and health policies and procedures.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
Excellent attention to detail.
Ability to organize work and maintain work flow without direction.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate's degree in a physical science with one year NSF laboratory work experience or three years with similar lab experience.
Good organization skills and a strong ability to take direction from multiple sources.
Familiarity with quality procedures.
Familiarity with general laboratory equipment and procedures.
Be able to manipulate and read syringes in order to transfer small volumes of liquid.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Light physical effort required for most sections (ability to lift and manipulate test samples or move 5 to 10lbs. from one area to another).
Medium and heavy physical effort for one section of the prep group (ability to lift and manipulate test samples or move up to 20 lbs. alone, or more with group or mechanical assistance).
Standing for long periods of time is necessary periodically.
Working with various organic solvents, chemical analytes, reagents, acids, and bases is necessary.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times in lab areas.
