Job Responsibilities
The Recovery Coach will assist individuals in understanding and accessing substance use disorder services. The Recovery Coach will model competency in recovery and demonstrate on-going coping skills. The Recovery Coach will bring their lived experience and peer perspective to the Treatment Team.
The Peer Recovery Coach (PRC) will provide peer support to participants in the 63rd District Court Recovery Court Program (63rd DCRC) who are entering recovery from a substance use disorder and/or co-occurring substance use and mental health disorder. Assists the 63rd DCRC Probation Officer in a variety of settings to support participants in their recovery.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Providing support and assisting individuals when they are seeking services; Providing Community Resources and Advocacy; Aiding in the transition of care; and Organization and System Planning.
Please note this is a grant funded position.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree (or equivalent college credits) with 6 months’ work experience
- State of Michigan Certified Peer Recovery Coach or be eligible to become certified by the State as a Peer Recovery Coach. Certification must be obtained within the first 6 months of employment.
- Complete the following training within 6 months from date of hire:
- Fundamentals for Problem Solving Courts
- Drug Court training for new employees
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation for job related use
- Knowledge and skills sufficient for establishing effective relationships with consumers who have a substance use disorder, their families, and team members
- Knowledge about substance use disorders as it pertains to recovery and crisis planning
- Basic computer skills
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written
- Good problem-solving skills
In order to qualify to become a Peer Recovery Coach, candidates are subject to detailed work and criminal background investigations and drug testing. The successful applicant must be of sound character, demonstrate a responsible work history, be free of felony convictions and possess a good driving record.
