Job Summary
We are accepting applications for this position now, but training will not take place until late 2023 or early 2024. Under the direction of the County Sheriff or his / her designee; performs limited Sheriff's Patrol, traffic control and related law enforcement duties.
Wage Range $15.19 per hour, no benefits, as needed for events
Responsibilities and Duties
Works on various shifts performing security patrols, traffic control and assisting deputy sheriff's and the pubic on various matters, such as: Safety awareness, community and school sporting events, fairs, drag ways, dances, and parades using vehicles, mounted on horseback, ORV, bike and foot patrols.
Carries out duties in conformance with Federal, State, County, and City laws and ordinances.
Rides along with sheriff deputies to patrol County and City streets, parks, commercial and residential areas to assist sheriff's deputies in preserving the peace, enforcing the law, protecting the public and controlling vehicular traffic.
Prepares a variety of reports and records including daily log, tow sheets, theft reports, vehicle impoundment forms, traffic hazard reports etc.
Maintains contact with supervisory personnel to coordinate activities, and provides general information about department activities.
Assist with adults, juveniles or animal transports.
Assists with crime scene security-fire/accident scene perimeter controls, crowd control, natural disaster/emergency response, court security functions and marine patrol.
County Park ordinance enforcement/Parks Patrol.
Assisting in searches for lost children and missing persons.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Additional Requirements:
Must be at least 21 years of age
Possess a valid Michigan driver's license and have a good driving record
Applicant shall have no felony criminal convictions and be able to pass a department criminal background investigation
Applicant must undergo a structured training program / academy and qualify with approved firearms as outlined by departmental policy and MCOLES requirements.
