SUMMARY:
Assist teachers in general daily classroom activities.
Sara Evitt's classroom, in St. Louis Westgate Elementary, during the school year.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned:
- Assist in small group pupil instruction; tutor pupils at teacher's request.
- Assist teacher in maintaining discipline and other (non) instructional functions.
- Assist with set up of classroom and prepares materials for specialized instructional units.
- Handles attendance reports and related clerical functions with the teacher.
- Assist in assembling/hanging materials on bulletin boards and keeping displays current.
- Operates standard school equipment such as laminator, copier, audiovisual.
- May escort children to and from various rooms and travel on buses.
- Ability to deal with disruptive behaviors.
- Administer medications to students.
- CPR and First-Aid Training.
- Snack preparation and restocking of classroom supplies.
- Assists students with toileting.
- Ability to handle bodily secretions (possibly infectious).
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITIES:
Supervises students.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Special Education background helpful.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization. Must be able to answer telephone and take accurate messages.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Previous work in child care. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and board of education policies.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to push/pull items of 50 pounds such as pushing children on a bike or moving/rearranging furniture.
