Michigan Works Region 7b has an immediate vacancy within their Offender Success team in Region 3, made up of Alcona, Alpena, Cheboygan, Crawford, Iosco, Montmorency, Ogemaw, Oscoda, Otsego, Presque Isle and Roscommon counties. We are seeking a motivated career minded passionate candidate that desires an opportunity where they can positively impact many lives, while contributing to the betterment of our communities, in their role as an Offender Success Resource Specialist/Career Coach; where you will help facilitate access to resources and care for returning citizens. Your final coverage area will be determined based on residency and program coverage needs. Frequent travel between assigned counties in your personal vehicle will be required, with paid mileage away from your base office. Your base office will be negotiated and determined upon hire. A valid Driver's License and a reliable vehicle are required for this position. This is a full time position offering excellent benefits and typically works M-F, 8 to 4 or 9 to 5 with weekends and holidays off. Offender Success is a statewide program implemented by the Michigan Department of Corrections that assists recently paroled offenders transitioning back into society. The mission of Offender Success is to significantly reduce crime and enhance public safety by implementing a seamless system of services for offenders from the time of their entry to prison through their transition, community reintegration, and aftercare in their communities. The Offender Success program provides many previously-incarcerated individuals a new lease on life. The VISION of the Michigan Offender Success Model is that every offender released from prison will have the tools needed to succeed in the community and the opportunity to utilize those tools to be productive, self-sufficient citizens.
Candidate performs case manager duties and must be accessible to clients and effectively coordinate and communicate with community partners, Offender Success and Michigan Works Administration, Parole Agents and MDOC for resources, case planning, wrap around services and unforeseen issues. A significant emphasize is placed on providing initial and ongoing career preparation, coaching and guidance to help participants in preparing for and successfully securing and sustaining employment and self-sufficiency, while completing tracking and reporting requirements of same. High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and case management is essential. Knowledge and experience in the criminal justice field is helpful but not required.
Qualified candidates will go through a screening, interview and hiring process which will include a complete background, reference check and criminal history LEIN check performed and approved by MDOC. A minimum of an Associate's Degree in Human Services, Criminal Justice, or other related field from an accredited institution is preferred; Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in a related field is highly preferred. In lieu of a college degree, only candidates with two or more years of verifiable experience in a Human Services or related position will be considered.
