Prepares patients for scans of particular organs to provide diagnostic information. Operates equipment to produce images and measures concentration of radioactive isotopes in specified body areas.
Registered as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) and in good standing.
Previous experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist preferred, but not required.
Maintains BLS certification with annual renewal.

SPECIFIC DUTIES
Acknowledges that safety is a self-responsibility. Knows the physical requirements of the job and work within those guidelines. Reports any unsafe situation/equipment according to Hospital procedure.
Responsible for preparation and administration of radiopharmaceuticals to patients under the direction of a radiologist, holding and turning patients, assisting in sterile procedures, and other related duties as required
Is responsible for the care of those patients assigned to him/her form the time the patient arrives until they leave. Must be courteous, tactful and discrete in handling patients, with quality care and patient safety of the first concern.
Transfers and properly positions patients for examinations in order to obtain desired Nuclear Medicine specifications. Provides immobilization as required and protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
Selects and operates equipment, selecting proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
Processes and loads images to PAC.
Is responsible for producing acceptable quality Nuclear Medicine scans as determined by the Radiologist.
Is responsible for the care of the nuclear medicine room assigned and if unassigned, to those duties and responsibilities relating to his/her reassignment.
Secures and returns supplies. Maintains stock room.
Reports Nuclear Medicine equipment failure to service engineer using proper forms and maintaining appropriate records.
Responsible for equipment calibration and radioisotope assay operation.
Adheres to prescribed standards for Radiation Safety.
Maintains adequate records of radioisotope receipts use, storage, and disposal in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
May assist in the use of a variety of equipment or procedure not routinely taught.
Performs a variety of related clerical tasks as necessary.
Performs on call duty, and holidays as assigned.
Takes advantage of opportunities for continuing education as provided by the department or seminars available for the various specialties.
Handles equipment in a responsible, professional manner.
Must be exacting in recording the required patient information on department forms and Nuclear Medicine films.
Must be able to act quickly and decisively in emergency situations and deviate from routine procedures when specific patient conditions require. Must be able to diplomatically handle stressful situations and use tact and judgment in dealings with patients and others.
Makes judgments regarding priority of own work when high volume situations arise, still maintaining the overall priorities established by the Manager of Technical Staff.
Must be able to solving procedural problems and improvise and adopt standard procedures to fit non-standard circumstances.
