Overview of this Position:
The Maintenance Technician is required to perform routine preventive maintenance and corrective or restorative repairs on electrical, mechanical, process, utility, manufacturing and & packaging systems and equipment. Ensure that the plant is running in peak condition in a safe and reliable manner. Work must comply with all applicable GRAM, state, and federal regulations/policies. Provide outstanding customer service to the manufacturing and support groups in all areas of facilities through excellent workmanship, attentiveness to business needs, strong interpersonal skills and keeping of detailed records. Troubleshoot, repair, and upgrade plant processing, labeling, packaging, and filling line equipment. Serve as a technical resource to manufacturing and engineering groups. Aid in the training and development of the technicians at a lower level in the career path.
Non-Negotiable Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must have and maintain a valid Michigan driver’s license.
- Completion of an apprenticeship and/or formal training in an area of specialty.
- Experience with the troubleshooting of PLCs is required.
- 3-5 years’ experience (at minimum) in maintenance field or in a related area.
- Mechanic, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical knowledge & aptitude required along with an understanding of preventive maintenance programs.
- Mathematical skills to include (at minimum) the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, determine linear measurements, compute areas and volumes of conventional shapes and forms, and compute approximate weight of objects.
- Ability to work with increasing levels of independence and self-direction. Ability to observe and report deficiencies.
- Ability to climb ladders, crawl in plenum areas, lift and carry heavy equipment, be able to bend, stoop and work in uncomfortable positions. Physically capable of working under all weather conditions.
- Be able to be contacted by telephone during non-working hours.
- Availability and willingness for overtime work or non-standard hours if needed (seldom).

Preferred Requirements:
- Associates degree desired.
- Experience in an FDA regulated (food/pharma) environment is preferred.
- May require eventual licensure in HVAC/R, Electrician, Boiler Operator, (or other), along with demonstrated growth in proficiency in one or more areas of maintenance specialization.
- Possess advanced skills as technician, extremely proactive in maintenance and troubleshooting, and exhibit strengths in predictive maintenance techniques.
- Ability to provide advice to junior members of the maintenance team. Can readily lead in the absence of a manager or supervisor.
Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):
- Accurately read, analyze, and interpret standard operating procedures (SOP), electrical schematics, service manuals, technical bulletins, and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Ability to provide current, direct, complete, and actionable feedback to others, identifying issues and taking appropriate action.
- Ensure the operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing maintenance requirements on filling, inspection, packaging/processing equipment along with facilities and utilities.
- Monitor equipment and systems performance through interpretation of gauge readings, vibration and other tests, and sensitivity for unusual conditions.
- Adjust equipment according to specifications to ensure optimal performance.
- Be readily available for emergency repairs in breakdown situations.
- Routinely inspect buildings and report all deficiencies unable to be corrected to the Maintenance Supervisor or Manager and/or Facilities Engineer.
- Ensure compliance with applicable FDA (GMP), OSHA, MIOSHA and GRAM regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines. Advise, consult, or implement safety programs and strategies in conjunction with site safety committee when applicable.
