Position Summary:
Responsible for accounting matters that arise in the absence of the Assistant Controller/Financial Accounting in Accounting Services and supports a wide range of accounting functions and operations related to assigned funds. Assists in the establishment or revision of major objectives and policies in the area of financial accounting, coordinates SAP training for user departments and provides supervision over assigned accountant positions.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting or related field.
Three years experience of a qualifying nature with fund accounting, computerized accounting systems, and PC software applications.
Supervisory experience.
Demonstrated organizational, problem solving and administrative abilities.
Ability to project a positive image.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, including experience with group presentations.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment.
Demonstrated positive interpersonal and organizational skills.
Ability to perform the essential functions and requirements of the job.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Accounting and/or Certified Public Accountant.
Experience working in a higher education environment.
Experience with SAP.
Experience working with federally and state funded grant awards.
Demonstrated ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships with students, faculty, staff and peers.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsible for accounting matters that arise in the absence of the Assistant Controller/Financial Reporting.
Supervise grant accountant positions; including the employment, orientation, training, disciplining and termination.
Assure compliance with internal controls, policies, procedures and federal and state grant regulations.
Develop, refine and document operational procedures.
Assist in the investigation and development of solutions to accounting related problems.
Coordinate and perform SAP training for Grants Management.
Year-end responsibilities for the expendable restricted fund.
Compile data for financial statements, including footnotes and management discussion and analysis section.
Provide analytical data to external auditors as required.
Assist in Single audit and preparation.
Assist with the compliance of the university with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and GAAP.
Complete both internal and external financial report requests.
Monitor, review, process journal entries and deposit cash for fixed price contracts.
Review and process accurate accounting transactions related to CMU gift accounts.
Prepare monthly reconciliations between SAP and Development’s tracking system.
Manages other special projects as assigned.
