HDR Engineering is currently looking for a Substation Section Manager to join our growing and national ranked team of Power Delivery professionals in our Ann Arbor, Michigan office.
Primary Responsibilities:
The primary duties of the Substation Section Manager are responsibility for the operational management and oversight of a production section including project delivery, staffing, quality, utilization, workload forecasting, work-sharing, safety, morale, recruiting, performance reviews, marketing support, and the general direction of the section to ensure operating plan expectations are met.
Specific activities include:
Monitor staffing levels within the section and develop recruiting plans as necessary.
Provide technical substation leadership/project management to ensure projects have appropriate staff and that the quality program is implemented effectively.
Coordinate with Area Section Manager and Managing Principal to promote and ensure the work performed in the section meets the corporate and area Quality Management System (QMS) requirements and that a culture of quality is maintained in the section.
Manage utilizations in the section to meet the operating goals of the Practice. Complete timely reporting to Practice leadership as required.
Maintain up to date and accurate workload and utilization forecasting per direction from leadership.
Coordinate with Area Section Manager and Section Managers to support work-sharing efforts.
May perform 0% and/or Project Reviews for project managers within the section.
Administer performance reviews and staff evaluations (awards and discipline) of direct reports.
Manage the growth of the section, including recruiting and hiring staff and developing and implementing business development and marketing plans, in coordination with Practice leadership.
Monitor and manage staff morale in the section and provide leadership to promote a positive work environment.
Perform client management, project management and/or technical support activities.
Lead and motivate the staff in the section to strive to meet the goals of the Practice.
Responsible for understanding the Area safety policies and procedures and ensuring that they are understood and followed, in close coordination with the Office Safety Coordinator.
Encourage and participate in business and community activities as representative of HDR.
He/she works independently and may direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise one or more staff.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
BS degree in Electrical Engineering or related academic discipline required.
A minimum of 10 years related progressive management experience
Excellent client management skills, marketing, and business development skills in addition to contacts/relationships with power delivery clients.
Previous experience managing staff, clients, contracts and hiring staff for an engineering consulting firm.
Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
Strong communication and listening skills a must.
Must have the ability to handle multiple assignments.
Good leadership and organizational skills are essential.
An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
Preferred Qualifications:
