Position Summary
Seeking Summer Instructor(s) for Michigan State University''s Kellogg Biological Station Summer Undergraduate Programs located in Hickory Corners, MI.
MSU’s W.K. Kellogg Biological Station (KBS) seeks an individual(s) to provide on-site and/or virtual course instruction (if needed) in field courses over the summer session. Courses for summer 2021 that may have open instructor positions include IBIO 355 – Ecology, IBIO 355L - Ecology Lab, PLB 418 -Plant Systematics, FW 417 – Wetland Ecology. These courses can be co-taught, in which case we would encourage you to apply as a team. We prefer to have the same instructor or team of instructors teaching Ecology and Ecology Lab. Dates of hire will vary between May 30 – August 7, 2021 depending on if course if offered during Section 1, Section 2 or both sections.

Summer courses at KBS typically run from 8:30am to 4:30pm each meeting day, which allows for field-based activities and instruction, project-based activities, site visits, and course-related research.
Teaching assignments will typically occur in 5-week sessions where you will be required to teach 2-3 days per week.
MSU Teaching Assistants will assist with these courses.
Key responsibilities:
Teaching undergraduate level course in ecology or biology.
Preparing course materials and syllabi. There are existing course materials and schedules from previous years that can be built upon.
Managing and grading all assignments.
Following university, department, and course policies and guidelines.
Attending training and summer session meetings to ensure the operation and safety of field-based courses.
Being available to students for professional guidance (in-formal advising).
Position is planned to recur every Summer Semester

Required Degree
Masters -Ecology, biology, evolutionary biology.
Minimum Requirements
Advanced degree in biology, ecology, evolutionary biology, natural resources or a related field. Master’s for Instructor rank.
Desired Qualifications
Active involvement in field-based research or teaching as evidenced by previous positions.
Broad understanding of biology, ecology, evolutionary biology, natural resources, and statistics.
Experience teaching biology, ecology, evolutionary biology, natural resources, and statistical concepts.
Training or work relevant to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.
CPR certification is a plus.
A valid driver’s license and background check are required.
