DESCRIPTION
Position overview:
This position will work with the engineering manager and current engineering staff with the primary responsibility for supporting existing business needs, products, and processes within the Oberdorfer and MP Pumps brands.
Major Responsibilities:
Take ownership of product configuration and engineering change processes.
Provide engineering input in resolving situations that affect production. Investigate issues through background research and engineering analyses as needed to achieve rapid and robust closure.
Lead assigned lifecycle engineering initiatives related to quality, supply chain, and value engineering.
Own the cost reduction engineering process we call I2V (Innovate to Value).
Assist with new product introductions into the factory, working closely with the New Product Development teams to support engineering builds, manufacturing builds, and system set-up.
Create and revise product documentation to current industry standards.
Specify required tests and qualify test data and measurements for existing products.
Submit requests for testing at the global product test labs and work collaboratively with lab technicians during test execution to assure that test objectives are met.
Develop curves of mechanical/hydraulic data and other necessary technical data or documentation.
Maintain excellent communication with affected departments in companies, especially project, product, and production managers.
Key Attributes:
Requirements:
5-8 years of mechanical/hydraulic/mechatronic design, manufacturing, or experience in pumps, motors, controls, or equivalent industry. Internships considered for relevant work experience.
Understanding of product design fundamentals at both a component and a system level.
Understanding of engineering drawings, including the ANSI Y14.5 drafting standard.
Experience in testing, and/or analysis, including use of lab equipment for analysis of designs
Proficiency with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance stack-ups, and component inspection procedures.
In-depth understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining, sand cast, die casting, investment casting, forging, powder metal and stamping.
Knowledge of materials, heat treatments, and coatings.
Strong project management skills, particularly with organizing tasks and managing time to complete simultaneous multiple assignments.
Demonstrated ability to solve problems and to make timely decisions with sound judgement.
Proven ability to function effectively in a cross-functional environment.
Good interpersonal and excellent communication skills both written and oral.
Ability to work well in a team environment, to take direction, and to direct the work of others including lab technicians, designers, and suppliers.
Experience using computers: Office, CAD (SolidWorks preferred).
Experience with manufacturing and engineering software: ERP (JDE/SAP), PLM (Windchill).
Must maintain a valid passport to support international and domestic travel of up to 25% annually.
High initiative and the drive to continuously improve.
Education Requirements:
BS degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent demonstrated experience in a technical field required.
