Consumers Energy, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy and headquartered in Jackson, Michigan, provides natural gas and electricity to nearly 6.8 million of Michigan's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.Department SummaryThe Instrument and Control Department is responsible for the testing, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of instrumentation and control systems in the electric generation facility located at the JH Campbell Complex, West Olive, Michigan.Job Description/ResponsibilitiesKey responsibilities for the Instrument and Control Technician will include:•Testing, troubleshooting, programming, and maintenance of computer-based control systems (distributed control systems and PLC based control systems).•Testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of pneumatic based control systems.•Analyze plant processes and equipment, recommend equipment upgrades and enhancements.•Interpret control logic drawings, schematics, and electrical prints.•Coordinate work with coworkers, employees in other departments, and/or external agencies.•Tasks performed may include collecting/calculating data; calibrating and testing in the field; maintaining and repairing equipment; calibrating instruments; preparing engineering drawings, finished drawings, environmental testing; developing and troubleshooting computer systems; laboratory testing; and performing standard calculations.Required Qualifications•Associates degree in the requisite scientific or technical field (48 scientific or technical credit hours as measured on a semester basis).•The 48 scientific or technical credit hours can be obtained through colleges, technical institutes, licensed apprenticeship programs, trade schools, military programs, etc.•For further consideration, please upload all relevant Official OR Unofficial transcripts and supporting documentation with your application.•Military applicants can request a Joint Services Transcript (https://jst.doded.mil), which provides descriptions of military schooling and work history in civilian language; it also provides credit recommendations with semester hours and level of the credit by the American Council on Education.Preferred Qualifications•College Degree focusing in Electronic, Electrical, and/or Computer Engineering Technology.•Ability to work in an industrial surrounding including high and low temperature environments.•Climb ladders and work at heights.•Proficient computer skills.•Work as a team or alone depending on the needs of the service.•Self-motivated and organized.•Flexible and able to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities.•Use basic test equipment: Digital voltage meter, Oscilloscope, etc.•Emerson Ovation DCS experience.•PLC programming experience.•HART programmer experience.Essential Functions•Maintains and troubleshoots electronic, electrical, mechanical, and other equipment for electric generation plant systems.•Repairs, calibrates and/or programs electronic components.•Resolves computer hardware and software problems.•Operates and maintains electronic equipment, diagnostic instruments, and software in performance of assigned duties, specifically: computers, volt meters, amp meters, electrical tools, telemetering, and process control software.•Interprets reports, electrical diagrams, control logic diagrams, and maintains documentation for reference.•Consults with manufacturers' service technicians, contractors, and vendor representatives to discuss problems, schedule installs, and evaluate costs for necessary parts, supplies, or repairs.•Performs other related duties as required.•Reviews, edits, develops, manages, and interprets documents and drawings utilized for the purposes of maintaining, constructing, testing, and removing equipment and facilities for plant systems.•Consults with supervisors, operators, technicians, manufacturers, vendors, subject matter experts and engineers to review assigned area needs, discuss problems, prioritize work, and provide technical expertise.Hours and Travel•Meet travel requirements of the position.•Work a flexible schedule, which may include backshifts, weekends, holidays and overtime.•Work extended shifts, after hours support on an as needed basis, as well as participate in the on-call rotation.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.•While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit;
