Location: Elmira, MI SUMMARY Assists maintenance and engineering efforts to ensure equipment reliability and maintain production capability. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. * Performs predictive Maintenance and Reliability (PDM) tasks using multiple types of specialized equipment and software programs to determine machine condition. Has the ability to work independently to obtain machine condition data and apply equipment sensors or transducers to plant machinery while in the production mode. Collects oil samples, or other process variables related to condition monitoring. * Collects vibration data for analysis, performs route data collection and assists with examination of the data trends. * Experience with the use of multiple computer programs to plot data and compose reports. Store or retrieve historical data and information related to machine condition or machine components. * Compiles biannual infrared thermography reports and writes corrective work orders for repair. * Performs coupling alignments and assists mechanics with technical aspects of machinery repairs. * Collects lubricant and oil samples. Interacts with external laboratories to perform qualitative analysis and reviews lubrication lab reports. Writes work orders or advises repairs based on lab reports. * Understands machinery such as motors, pumps, gearboxes, and air compressor machine dynamics and preventative measures necessary to maintain these systems. * Communicates findings effectively to the Maintenance and Reliability department leadership based on trending data and past case machine history. Provides input on the scope and direction of the maintenance department work plan with the goal of preventing machine downtime and improves production capacity. Advises the Maintenance Department on machine repair priorities. * Work with company employees or contractors, performing equipment repairs or data collection activities. * Performs follow up data collection on machines after repairs to quantify the improved machine operation and provides feedback to mechanics and maintenance leadership on repair effectiveness. * Provides technical support to maintenance and production personnel. Must be willing to work hands on when required along with mechanics or electricians. * Analyzes equipment component failures to determine root causes and works with maintenance and engineering to eliminate the failure mode. Contributes to continuous improvement of plant capabilities and safety. * Maintains equipment and participates in equipment calibration and properly stores, tests, validates, and assists mechanics in the use of plant owned tools. Tools such as torque wrenches, alignment tools, and is responsible for vibration equipment, tachometers, frequency meters, ultrasound equipment, and their proper operation. Arranges equipment repairs or calibration where necessary. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Associates degree, or experience in mechanical engineering or related engineering discipline preferred; some experience and/or exposure to vibration analysis and spectrum analysis, infrared thermography, laser alignment and lubrication would be beneficial. A good mechanical aptitude for machinery motion and operation is a plus. Understanding of rotating element machinery such as in rolling element bearings and power train systems is desired. Exposure to electrical equipment such as motors or Variable Frequency Driven motors, motor starting systems, electrical controls and electrical Programable logic controllers is desirable. Willingness to attend courses and specialized education on equipment or software programs used in predictive maintenance and reliability improvements. Arc Flash training and the ability to recognize electrical or mechanical risk is desirable.
