Provides personal, career, and academic counseling services for students and employees of the college; coordinates college placement services, provides job search assistance and career and employment services for students, faculty, staff, and Kirtland alumni.

Provides personal counseling to students and/or college employees.

Performs career counseling, assessment and interpretation; provides occupational awareness and job exploration activities; assists students in identifying career goals and the programs of study to achieve them.

Schedules, administers and/or supervises administration of standardized academic testing: scores and interprets test results. Consults with testing center staff as needed.

Administers career interest and personality inventories, interprets results, and assists students in identifying career goals or college majors.

Manages dismissed and academic reinstated students.

Coordinates special projects such as alcohol and drug awareness week.

Advises students about content and structure of postsecondary programs including graduation and/or transfer requirements for a particular program of study.

Audits, monitors, and evaluates individual student academic progress.

Disseminates certificate, diploma and university transfer program information to all learners and other appropriate internal and external contacts in individual or group sessions.

Interprets testing results relevant to placement decisions; determines student readiness for College programs.

Assists students in the development of an educational plan including choosing a program of study and/or clarifying educational goals.

Informs students about alternatives, limitations and possible consequences of academic decisions (e.g. adding, dropping and withdrawing from courses; change of program, major and/or transfer institution)

Maintains up-to-date knowledge about the College's programs and requirements; consults with contacts at various transfer institutions regarding course and program transferability, admission and graduation requirements.

Educates students about course planning and registration process.

Participates in on- and off-campus events promoting Kirtland Community College, assists with orientation programs.

Develops and promotes internal communication and resource sharing in order to benefit student success.

Monitors course enrollment and make recommendations to appropriate staff regarding reserves, restrictions, availability, waitlist, or closure based on program demand and course availability

Provides recommendations for continuous improvement to all services for academic advising purposes and to integrate practices and technology aimed at improving student service

Member of the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT).

Represents college at off-campus recruiting events and career fairs.

Contributes professionally by serving as appropriate on college committees and task groups; keeps staff and administration informed of state and federal requirements for areas of assigned responsibility.

Maintains administrative documents and confidential student records.

Performs other related tasks as required.

Master's degree in counseling, social work, or a related field
-
State of Michigan professional counselor (LPC) or social work (LSW) license
-
Three years' experience in academic advising or related positions in the field of education, or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of the position

Ability to learn and effectively use network related software and database management systems
