Job Title: Material Handler/Shipping
Department: None specified
Reports To: Supervisor
Removes shipped materials from delivery vehicles (checking for any visible damage) and moves to designated storage area. Incoming shipments will include products, parts, or raw materials. Pulls stored materials for operations and moves to production or shipping area. Documents information relating to receipt, storage, or distribution of materials. Operates a forklift for moving or stacking materials.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
Loads, unloads, and moves materials within plant, yard, or work site, performing any combination of following duties:
Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
Opens containers using steel cutters or other handtools.
Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves.
Loads and unloads materials on and off vehicles and installs or removes strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
Conveys materials to or from storage or work sites to designated area, using handtruck, or other device.
Secures lifting attachments to materials and conveys load to destination, using hand-operated crane or hoist to destination.
Can read, write and understand the English language and comprehend differences in product and part number.
Can comprehend and perform basic computer operation as needed to document product receipt, product shipment, and product invoicing.
Labels material to properly identify for storage as requirements dictate for raw stock or work in process.
Move material from “hold” areas only after being released by Quality Assurance.
SPECIFIC TO SHIPPING PERSONNEL
Works with customer service to facilitate shipping and invoicing of customer product and returns.
Works with designated trucking companies to insure on-time delivery of product.
Material handler – High School education or equivalent with two years experience in material handling in a manufacturing environment.
Shipping (additional) – two years experience in material handing in a manufacturing environment and two years experience in shipping and receiving.
