Job Title: Sales Engineer
Department: Sales
Reports To: VP of Sales, Quality, Engineering
FLSA Status: Exempt
SUMMARY
Assists in the promotion of profitable business and in administration of sales activities. Working with new and current customers creating a partnership. Ultimately securing orders, guarantee product standards and assure product delivery for our customers and grow our business.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support with all customer contact including:
- Build customer rapport and acceptance.
- Recommend additional products and services to the customer.
- Quotations; follow-up and review.
- Purchase order placement and changes.
- Complaints; resolution/disposition.
- Returned goods; approval/disposition.
- Evaluation of capabilities/fit for RFQ’s.
- Assist in other sales administration activities including:
- Price book maintenance.
- Customer files maintenance.
- Sales statistics and trends.
- Part order hold resolution/disposition.
- Clerical Responsibilities
- Enter all quote information into quote log.
- Generate quote folder including all supporting documentation.
- Create quote master in ERP system including all material and process steps required.
- Generate quote letter including necessary fees and terms.
- Maintain ongoing good relationships with respect to existing business through frequent customer contacts, prompt handling of requests/complaints, and close overview of product quality and delivery for all customers.
- Assist in securing new business through direct field solicitation, evaluation of requests for quotations and preparation of quotations.
- Provide new product launch support alongside a multidisciplinary team of coworkers.
- Contribute to sales engineering effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range issues that must be addressed, recommending options and courses of action, and implementing directives.
- Draft or assist with the drafting of presentations and other documentation and materials that explain products and services to customers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university preferably in Engineering with 2+ years of product or sales experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in sheet metal manufacturing processes is a plus.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of manufacturing and office software, with a reliable technical background.
- Ability to perform simple math using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to create and interpret graphs.
- Capability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Skill to read and understand part drawings and manipulate 3D CAD data.
- Organizational/time management skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects at a given time.
- Excellent sales and customer service skills with a proven ability to explain technical products to non-technical audiences.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Working conditions are normal for an office setting within a manufacturing environment. The work involves lifting materials and product up to 30 pounds.
- Machinery environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, protective shoes/boots. Loose-fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.
- Employees must demonstrate the physical ability to work in a standing or sitting position, up to 8-12 hours per day.
