Description/Distinguishing Features
Crossing Guards work at various Kalamazoo school system street intersections/posts, assisting students who must cross the street and other child safety actions when dealing with traffic. Hours vary according to assigned posts.
Crossing Guards are paid a minimum of two hours, (one hour for morning post/one hour for afternoon post), with a maximum of 10 hours worked per week.
- Starting pay is $15.00/hr
- Paid school snow days
- Paid school vacation days/days off during the school calendar year
Examples of Duties
Must exercise good judgment in providing safe crossing for school children.
Essential Qualifications
Crossing Guards must work in inclement weather conditions, need a telephone for contact and their own transportation. Must be able to hold up a sign and cross street intermittently for 45 minutes at a time. Must be available for split shifts (morning and afternoon) on school days between September and mid-June. Must be prompt, reliable and consistent in their duties at their post. Experience working with school age children is desirable.
Acceptable Training and Experience
After hire, Crossing Guards must attend a State of Michigan required training course at the City's expense.
